Have you ever had the experience of really worrying about something, and then worrying that your negative thoughts would actually attract it to you?
Yeah, me too. It’s not very helpful for those with anxiety. One negative thought, and you think your whole life is about to fall apart.
But of course you really don’t want that bad thing to happen, so you keep worrying.
And of course the more you think about it, the worse you feel.
There is no such thing as “defense” in the law of attraction. You cannot protect yourself against something unwanted.
Because, in the very thought of defense or protection, is the seed of the unwanted thing. And so as you focus on protecting yourself, you just draw more of it to you.
First of all, don’t worry about the negative thoughts too much. Our universe is built on wellbeing, and so it is very unlikely for a few fearful thoughts to manifest instantly, luckily for us.
But we do need to shift this whole paradigm of defense on its head, because it clearly does not work.
The more you try to defend yourself, the more you will find to defend against.
The best defense you could possibly have is happiness. Or at the very least, contentment.
Even just to enter that central place of stillness, which I have described so often, will free you from the need to defend against anything.
When you are aligned — with happiness, with peace, with stillness — life automatically starts to go in your favor. There’s nothing you need to do about it.
A few weeks ago, I found myself caught up in a vicious downward cycle of worry. It seemed like I could do nothing to get out of it. And the more worried I felt, the more I found to worry about.
The only thing that got me out of this cycle was the willingness to trust. I had to uncurl myself from my mental fetal position, and open up to the Universe.
Then things started to shift.
Where once it felt like everything was against me, literally everything seemed to be going wrong…
now it started to feel like everything was going in my favor.
Where before little unexpected things kept happening to irritate or scare me, now little things started to happen to make me happy.
It’s such a shocking difference, but it’s 100% true.
But it couldn’t change until I was willing to open up.
It couldn’t change until I stopped feeling the need to defend myself.
