A few weeks ago, I had a really complicated task at work, which I had a lot of resistance around. I simply didn’t know where to even begin in tackling this task, and yet the more I put it off, the more stressed I became.
Finally I sat down and told myself, “I need to align in regards to this task. I won’t even think of working on it until it feels natural.”
Luckily my work environment is flexible enough that no one would notice if I took out some time to work on my own emotional state.
This was on either a Thursday or Friday. But by the time Monday came along, a huge breakthrough had occurred.
I can’t pinpoint the exact moment… I just know that where once I was stuck, massive creative energy started flowing through. I worked on this task non-stop all week, and though a few times I got a little stuck, it was nowhere close to how stuck I had been before.
And any time I did get a little stuck, I just took out a little time, maybe 30-60 minutes or so, and re-centered myself.
That was the most fun I think I’ve ever had with a task before, and to think that once I dreaded it.
There are two lessons to take out of this:
Firstly, that forcing your way through a task doesn’t accomplish anything. Sure, perhaps if my boss had been watching over my shoulder, he might have preferred I plow right through and force myself to figure out this task. But I guarantee I would have been far less productive.
By taking out the time I needed to, it freed up creative energy to then propel me towards the solution effortlessly.
Force is never the answer.
But secondly, that accomplishing this or that task isn’t my job. Finding a solution to this or that problem isn’t my job. On paper it may be listed as my job, if you asked my boss he’d say it was my job, but those things are only the external manifestation of my job.
My job is alignment. And my job would be alignment even if I didn’t hold a regular “job”. No matter what it might appear I did in physical reality to “earn” money (you can never earn money, but more on that another day), my job is only ever alignment.
Because without alignment, nothing gets done. And with alignment, everything gets done, in the best possible way for everyone.
This holds no matter what you are doing. If you are applying for work, your job is not sending out applications. Your job is alignment.
If you want more clients for your business, getting new clients is not your job. Your job is alignment.
Accomplish alignment first, and all the rest will follow.
I had a wonderful session with a client yesterday. In our previous session, I had told her exactly this (maybe not in these words). I told her essentially she needed to stop trying so hard, and focus on just feeling better, on any topic, and the rest would follow.
Then for the first time in our coaching relationship, she reported to me yesterday that part of her manifestation had come through just the day before. And I fully attribute it to her following my advice and just focusing on feeling better — in other words, finding alignment.
That’s literally all it takes. And it doesn’t have to be a lot of work.
In fact, it shouldn’t be work at all.
That’s why I’m offering this new masterclass this weekend: Creating from Non-Doing.
Many people don’t realize the power of alignment, and try to reach for their goals via their ego — either through physical action or mental effort.
But when you realize the power of alignment, which comes about through non-doing, everything starts clicking into place effortlessly, much as it did for my dreaded task at work, and much as it did for my client.
