You might think that you are free, but are you, really?
As I discussed in last week’s podcast, freedom is not guaranteed to all.
The truth is, only a very few souls will ever choose freedom. And indeed, it is a choice. But there are so many influences subtly encouraging you to reject freedom that you often don’t really even realize that you have done so.
You come into this world having to do what your parents say, what teachers say, what other authority figures say. Then they implant you with certain expectations: whether you will go to college, what kind of job you might get, what types of work are appropriate or not, what kinds of actions are appropriate or not.
If you don’t abide by those expectations, then they use the weapon of guilt. You’re a bad person for not doing the “right” thing.
But it goes so far beyond this. This pattern repeats lifetime after lifetime. The societal programming becomes more and more entrenched.
You follow a religion or spiritual path, which will likely tell you what’s right and wrong and how you should live. If it’s a western religion it’ll tell you you need to serve God and never disobey him. If it’s an eastern religion then it’ll tell you that you must live out your dharma, and end suffering through removing your desires.
Either way, your very selfhood is being leeched away little-by-little. Your freedom is being constricted more and more, and likely you will believe that this is just the way things are.
So most people have no idea what freedom is, and they allow it to be slowly bled away until there is nothing left.
This is a far greater question than merely whether you are doing what you want in life. Though, truthfully, if you are not free, you probably aren’t.
You may be doing what you believe is the best you can do, given your circumstances, but that itself is a sort of bondage.
The question comes down to the very foundation of your being:
- Will you allow your selfhood to be diminished and constricted, or will you strengthen and expand it?
- Will you be in bondage, or will you be free?
- Will you serve, or will you rule?
- Will you be a slave, or will you be a God?
It’s your decision.
But, you may not always know how to make that decision. Bondage may be so ingrained, so deeply programmed into your being that you cannot see a way out.
This is why I have written this issue of the Circle of Darkness newsletter about freedom. Freedom is the first of the 6 fundamental laws of godhood, and without it you cannot hope to proceed down this path.
You have until the end of the day this Friday to sign up for the newsletter if you have not already.
