Quite often I’ll get into a situation in my life where I start doing things because I feel like I “should” or I “have to”, but not necessarily because I want to.
This isn’t just at work, either. Even in my personal life, or in my dealings with Dark Ascent, sometimes I have been governed more by “should” or “have to”, than by “want to.”
It’s something I really try to keep an eye out for because freedom is one of the most important things to me. It’s also a sign when I’m not really connected with myself.
How much do you do this? How much of your life is spent in slavery to what you believe you “have” to do?
Society trains us to do this— to do what we “have” to do. We’re told that doing something for ourselves is bad— that such a thing is “selfish”.
Why do you think we so often denigrate rich people? Far too many people think that the rich owe them something— that they are selfish to be rich and should give all that away. Hopefully you don’t believe this, but it’s a common enough belief.
Just as one example I’ve come across, if the CEO of a company makes a few million dollars per year, many people think they’re a bad leader and should pay their employees more rather than taking so much for themselves. But why?
Even in common spirituality, especially on the right-hand path, we’re told that it’s better to follow the rules, and that everything we do should be for the “highest good of all” instead of just benefiting ourselves.
In other words, society is ruled by guilt and “have tos”. And those who don’t give in to this tyrannical rule are labeled as “selfish”.
It’s a system of enslavement which is self-perpetuating, and very few people I know are truly free of it, even myself on occasion.
But why should you be a slave to life? You are here for yourself, not anyone else. Why should you do even one thing that you don’t want to do? Why should you do even one thing that has not been freely, joyfully chosen by you?
To me, the law of attraction, or magick, or whatever you want to call it, is truly about ending our self-imposed slavery. After all, what’s the point of manifesting something just to limit yourself with guilt or with ideas of “the good of all”? You’ll be left with diluted manifestations that bring no joy at all.
The point of magick is to realize the God that you are and step out of the system of enslavement and into that of ultimate freedom.
This will be the topic of my upcoming newsletter. I’ll show you the three steps it takes to end slavery in your own life and step into a life of absolute freedom, where it is OK to have or do anything you want.
