One of the biggest things that keeps people stuck is attachment to their desire. They want it, no matter what. And that attachment quickly turns into desperation.
But would you rather have that attachment, or would you rather be free?
Note I didn’t formulate it as, “would you rather have your desire, or would you rather be free?” because that’s not the choice we have.
It’s the choice our ego makes us think we have: we think that if we let go of the attachment, then we won’t get the desire itself.
But the scales are actually extremely unbalanced: on one end you have attachment, suffering, and lack; while on the other end you have freedom, happiness, and actually having the thing you desire.
Now what kind of choice is that? Is it even worth considering?
Yet most people reading this will choose attachment, because they believe the lie of the ego that attachment and intense wanting will bring them their desire. But, it won’t. I’ve seen it again and again in others, and even experienced it quite a few times myself. Intense wanting brings you nothing but more wanting.
When you can just give up that attachment and choose to be free now, then you are open to receiving that desire.
The thing keeping you attached is your resistance. If you don’t know how to handle it, then it can feel overwhelming and rather scary. It feels extremely real, and extremely threatening.
Yet it’s nothing of the sort. If you learn how to release any resistance, then it becomes no threat at all, and in fact quite the help along your journey.
