So you’ve used your will to choose what you want, as I discussed last week. But after you’ve done this, what comes next? Why should the Universe care if you’ve made that decision? What practical effect does it actually have?
Today I answer this very question, a followup from last week’s question from Teresa.
Here’s the question:
Teresa asks: “OK, so when you have made the decision – utilized your will – but you literally don’t know what the hell to do – what comes next?”
Check out the video below for my answer.
You’re not always going to know the next step. It’s the ego that wants to know, that wants to put in effort and take action to make something happen. But when inspiration takes over, you often don’t know what is next, only that you are headed in the right direction.
But you must realize the power of making a decision. A whole chain of reactions is set into place when you use your will to choose what you want. It moves the whole universe.
You must never be desperate, though. Desperation, as always, will only keep what you want away from you.
The only thing to do now is just to wait— to see what the Universe does next.
Every day, you make that decision, you focus on the emotions of having it. This simple act will move energy, which will always create some change in the universe out there.
Any time you move energy, the very first thing that happens is that your subconscious mind resists you. You’ll get negative thoughts and feelings about why this can’t happen. You absolutely must work through that resistance, in order to get what you want, as it is this resistance that stands in your way.
To work through that resistance, you can use what I’ve called radical acceptance, or just accepting and embracing everything that comes up. Another useful method is The Work of Byron Katie. I’ve covered both of these methods in my course, Creating From Zero.
Why does resistance come up? Resistance is your subconscious mind trying to work out what it should believe. It does not want to hold contradictory beliefs. So when you tell it that want money, for example, but it has a belief that money is hard, it’s essentially saying, “Wait a minute. You told me to believe that money is hard, but now you’re saying you want money. Which is it?”
So, resistance comes up, and at that point you have a choice: will you choose “money is hard”, or will you choose “I can have money”?
If you fear that negative thought, then you’ve chosen the resistance. If you allow that thought but still keep your focus on what you want, then you’ve chosen your goal.
The key is non-reaction. Do not react to the resistance. It’s sort of like a child is trying to irritate you. If you give them attention by reacting, they’re just encouraged to continue. But if you simply don’t react, then the energy dies away and they stop.
So it’s the same with your thought. Allow the thought to be, without reacting to it. Then, without the emotional reaction to feed it, the thought will move on and you’ll be left with the thing you want.
The whole work of the law of attraction is about dissociating from your negative thoughts and beliefs. This is more important than visualization, affirmations, or anything else.
Making a decision triggers that resistance. Notice that it often feels worse to say “I choose to have this goal,” vs. only “I intend to have this goal,” or even just fantasizing about it. To choose is to commit, and your subconscious mind knows that you are serious.
So this is your work. Choose the goal, make that decision, and don’t react to the resistance. You don’t need to worry about the how, or trying to make it happen. In fact, as I said a few weeks ago, to try to figure this all out is just to bang your head against a wall.
Once you let go and step back, inspiration takes over and the answers come naturally. Getting into the Zero State will always bring the answers to you. The mind is powerless to do any of this.
