Much of the reason that people stay clenched and resistant most of the time is because they have uncomfortable feelings that are coming up. Feelings like fear, unfulfilled desire, anger, sadness, guilt, and so on, come up throughout the day, and our natural reaction is to resist these feelings.
This is magnified even more in the law of attraction community since it is commonly taught that negative feelings will lead to negative manifestations. This is true, of course, but the negative feelings are already present, so resisting them will actually just cause them to increase even more. We can’t magically pretend to be positive while underneath it all, we are actually feeling negative. This won’t fool the Universe at all.
So being an open hand to the Universe means totally allowing all of our feelings that come up, welcoming them all equally.
If you play favorites, resisting this feeling while allowing that feeling,you’re just repressing the undesired feelings and causing them to grow even stronger. You have to allow all feelings to come up equally, remaining open to them all.
What happens when you do this is that the feelings naturally pass through. The nature of energy is to flow, and emotions are just a denser form of energy. Allowing a negative emotion won’t cause you to experience more of it—quite to the contrary, it’ll allow it to diminish and decrease in your experience, including any manifestations that stemmed from that negative emotion.
For example, allowing sadness won’t cause you to experience more sadness. It’ll actually cause it to diminish as it passes out of your system, and any physical manifestations that came from that repressed feeling of sadness will likewise begin to decrease in your experience.
I’m starting out with this advice because when you first start endeavoring to be an open hand to the Universe, you may notice that instead of all the wonderful gifts I promised you’d experience, you’re actually experiencing more uncomfortable thoughts and emotions. This is to be expected, because these are just the first layer of resistance that you’ve been holding down for who knows how long. The moment you stop resisting them, they readily come up to the surface to be released.
This can be quite disconcerting if you don’t know what to expect, and so you might think that this practice is actually causing more harm than good. But it’s not: it’s just clearing out the old garbage to make room for the new gifts that the Universe will send your way.
So my suggestion for the first day is just to be more mindful of the stream of thoughts and emotions that are coming up. Don’t try to do anything with them: just allow them to come up and pass through. If you notice that you are resisting them, let that be OK, too, and just take a few deep breaths and open up to the full brunt of these emotions.
Sometimes it may take a few minutes for the full force of this stream to flow through you, but that’s perfectly normal and OK. Just allow it all, and do your best not to resist it.
This is probably the hardest part of being open to the Universe, but it’s also the most important. Practice the above today and see what happens.
