We all know that the mind is creative. We know that what you give your attention to, tends to grow.
Yet it has really become far clearer to me lately how true it is that we are constantly creating.
People seem to not want to believe that their negative manifestations have come from none other than themselves, but it is true.
I recently heard the analogy that your mind is like an oven. An oven will bake whatever you put into it, whether you want it to or not. Even if you were to stick a shoe in that oven, it’d still bake it according to its nature. You just wouldn’t like the result very much. ?
The mind is the same. It creates whatever you allow the mind to focus on. If you have thoughts of abundance, you’ll get abundance, while if you have thoughts of lack, you’ll get lack.
I know, I know, that’s LOA 101. But have you ever stopped to actually pay attention to what you’re putting into that metaphorical oven?
Some examples:
- You’ve just found out that you’ll have a project at work that you don’t particularly enjoy. So you start dreading it, start thinking about how awful it’ll be. What are you putting into the “oven” of your mind? Dread and fear. What do you think you’ll get?
- You keep looking at your bank account and wondering whether you’ll have enough to pay all your bills. You think about how short money is, and what you can do to fix the situation. What are you putting into the “oven”? Lack, shortage consciousness, fear, effort. What do you think you’ll get?
- You think about a goal of yours. But you feel like it’ll be difficult, or maybe it’s not even possible. You think about all the hard work you’ll have to put in to even have a chance. What are you putting into the “oven”? Lack of your goal, lack of possibilities, hard work, effort, disappointment.
Hopefully you get the point. The thing is that in my experience, we’re doing something like the above pretty much every day, often multiple times per day. And then we wonder why we aren’t getting the things we want. It’s because we’re focusing on and thinking about the things we don’t want.
We’re using our creative potential to create the exact opposite of what we want to create.
So stop yourself for a second. What is it that you’re thinking about? At the risk of mixing metaphors, if these thoughts and feelings were seeds that you planted, would you like their fruit? If you put these things in the “oven” of your creative mind, would you like what came out?
It’s totally up to you, and no one is making you think anything other than what you’d like to be thinking. It’s all you. It’s not the money, the job, the government, or even other people. It’s all you, and you get to decide what you focus the creative power of your mind upon.
