No one else has power in your life.
Yes, that’s right, no one.
It’s easy to think that our lives are subjected to the influence of all sorts of other people: our boss, our spouse or partner, our parents, our children, etc.
And if not people, then surely our lives are subjected to the circumstances of our reality. You might think that money only has so many ways of coming to you, or that there are only so many ways you could meet someone romantically. You might think that you’re stuck in your job because of reasons A, B, and C, or that you can’t have your desires because of reasons X, Y, and Z.
But none of this is true. No person or circumstance has the power to assert themselves into your reality.
This has become abundantly clear to me recently, and the freedom I’ve felt as a result of this new realization has been astonishing.
Elinara was upset about something or another the other day. At first I started to allow myself to get caught up in her negative mood.
But then I thought, “Wait a second, this has nothing to do with me. Even if she thinks it has to do with me, it’s really about her. I don’t have to let it affect me. She can be upset at me and yet I can remain unaffected.”
And so I did, and quickly she got over it.
Byron Katie says this wonderfully. She says there are three types of business: my business, your business, and God’s business (meaning reality itself).
Well her being upset at me was her business. If I made it my business, then I’d get upset, too, but what good would that do? Then we’d both get to suffer. But if I let it be her business, and chose not to make it mine, then I didn’t have to suffer.
Since that moment it’s opened up a whole world of possibility.
- I don’t have to be nervous about work. The circumstances of work aren’t my business, just how I react to them. And how I react to them will determine what I create in the future.
- My financial goals aren’t limited to what I think life will allow at this moment. If I believe that, then I’m letting current reality become my business. My business is what I choose to focus on and how I choose to feel about it. I can feel greater abundance and possibility, and that has to be created, no matter what current reality might look like.
- I can live and do the things I want to do, no matter what people think about it, because they can’t assert their opinions in my reality unless I give them that power. I can choose to create what I want to create, and reality has to respond.
The possibilities are endless. In short: nothing can assert itself into your reality unless you have drawn it to you somehow. If you only care about how you feel and what you choose to create, then no one and nothing else has the power to say otherwise.
Look at your own life and where you maybe feel powerless, or like other people or circumstances are getting in the way. Then realize that none of that is true. You have all the power. What would it be like if you could simply choose how you would feel about that situation, and thus what you would create?
Feel free to comment with your own thoughts and how you can apply this to your life.
I’m opening up some spots for free coaching consultations this week. If you’d like to know how you can reclaim the power to create what you choose, free of the seeming influence of others, then schedule a call with me by clicking below:
