Welcome to day 3 of the 7 Day Effortlessness Challenge! I hope it is going well for you so far.
My own day 2 was pretty good. The easy task I mentioned on day 1 was still my task yesterday, and I finished it considerably before the deadline, without rushing or really trying all that hard. All the answers have been coming easily to me. I even found a tool that made my job a lot easier and certain aspects far less tedious. It was a small thing but really nice to install and start to use.
There were, as always, some negative moments. But, I want to communicate to you that this will always be the case. You will not always be positive. In fact, you may not even be positive most of the time initially.
What we’re looking for here is upward progress. If you start out being negative 75% of the time, then perhaps you decrease that down to 50%, then 25%, etc. I’m not asking for 100% positivity from the start.
In fact if you are trying very hard to be happy, you will probably fail at it. But being happy is not what I’m asking for. I’m asking for surrendering to effortlessness. The Flow will bring you to happier and happier states, though you may not notice at first. There is no trying here at all, just letting go into the state of effortlessness.
Effortlessness is your natural state, so it should be quite easy. It’s only because you are very good at practicing resisting life that you do so much of that. So all that’s asked is that you do a bit less of that, and a bit less, etc.
Over time, you’ll notice your overall state of consciousness becoming more positive. By the end of the challenge, you should notice a definite improvement. But, don’t worry about whether you will or will not see that improvement. Simply trust the process.
And even when things are largely looking up, you’ll still experience down moments. But you’ll get better and better at bouncing back into the positive, or at least into the neutral. And so your stints in the negative end of the spectrum will become fewer and fewer, shorter and shorter.
Simply continue to ask yourself this question: “Am I striving, trying, or resisting right now?” If so, focus on just letting go and allowing.
The question may arise, “Hey, what about all the stuff about will?” All that still has a place, but not this week. This week is about bringing the balance back to effortlessness. Once you have established that stability, then you can intelligently apply will where needed. But, it is too easy to believe you are using will, when you are really only being desperate and trying too hard.
I’ve been working through a similar process with a coaching client, and she recently asked, half-jokingly I think, “So when do I get all the black magick spells?” Implying, of course, that they’d fix her “problem,” quoted because there are no problems.
But of course, they won’t fix it, because the very idea that there’s something to fix is the problem.
So for now, just let go. Just allow. The rest will come later.
And remember, if you’d like to learn how to use the process of willful effortlessness to know how to balance these two seemingly opposing forces, then sign up for my Circle of Darkness Newsletter, and I’ll be discussing exactly that in the first issue coming out next Friday.
And now, how about you? How is your effortlessness challenge going? Let me know!
