Anyone who is on my mailing list knows that I end my emails with the phrase, “anything is possible”. It’s a nice little reminder to me, and hopefully to everyone else, that we live in a universe of infinite possibilities.
But it’s all too easy to forget this fact. It’s all too easy to get caught up in the illusion of limitation—that we are stuck with whatever we have in life.
So what do you do when you seem stuck? What do you do when life isn’t giving you the options you want?
You generate new options, obviously. Today’s post will show you how.
How We Get Stuck
Here’s the common situation a lot of people find themselves in: “I want X. I don’t know how I could possibly get X. I feel stuck.”
For example: “I want to make more money. I don’t see any way I could make more money.”
It’s often because we get caught up in the “how” that we become stuck. We want something, but can’t see a path to getting it, and so the Universe reflects our feeling of stuckness.
The more we focus on being stuck, the more we experience being stuck. And the more we experience it, the more we focus on it, and the cycle goes on and on.
But how can we find the pathway out of our stuckness? How can we discover the path to freedom and new possibilities?
We must create that pathway.
The Field of Infinite Potentiality
If you can imagine it, you are literally in the middle of an infinite field of potentiality. There is raw creative energy all around you, ready to create anything you wish at the merest thought.
You experience this field regularly. Almost everyone has experienced receiving a random inspired idea, or the solution to some problem, when in the shower or just out for a walk.
It’s what happens when you get distracted from your problems just for a moment, and in an instant, everything is different.
This field of infinite potentiality goes by many names. In the past I’ve called it the zero state, though I think that term was often misunderstood. It’s been called simply “awareness” or “witness consciousness,” but while these are accurate, it’s so much more dynamic than any of those labels indicate.
Where does creation come from? It comes from zero, from nothing. It comes from emptiness, from the Void.
It is said that God created the universe from nothing. Except I’d say that from nothing (or infinite potentiality), sprang the universe. What was the cause? Nothing, of course.
And we create from nothing every day. When a composer writes a brand new song, seemingly from inspiration. When an artist paints a totally new painting. When an idea springs to mind, seemingly from nothing (because it is, of course), and you carry out that idea into manifestation.
Even me, writing this blog post, where the ideas come fully formed into mind, having sometimes never been thought in such a way, with such completeness, before.
We all create from nothing, because nothing is infinitely creative. We all are God, creating the universe from nothing on a daily basis. Or, perhaps better said, we allow that field to create through us, in conformity with our will.
Because, when we don’t allow that field to create, we are insisting on the creation that already exists. We are insisting on the lack we see around us, calling it “real”, and so not allowing another reality to be generated from the Void.
How We Persist Unwanted Reality
This is how we persist unwanted reality. Giving it our focus, we hold it in existence by our attention to it.
How was that unwanted reality created in the first place?
When any reality springs from the field of infinite potentiality, it must by definition be inspired by the will. The Universe only ever creates what we want, because that’s the structure of things: reality is created according to the will of the creator.
But, as we create, our desires evolve. What we once thought we wanted, we want no longer.
But, instead of returning to the Void, to the field of infinite potentiality, for a newly-generated creation, we persist the old creation by our attention. We create more of it, and notice more and more how much we don’t want it.
For example, imagine I have created a reality in which I have a job paying me $50,000 per year. It’s a wonderful thing and I’m very happy with it, for a while.
But eventually, I want more. My desire has evolved, because creation is eternal. Perhaps I want $70,000 now, perhaps I want a new job, or perhaps I want to be self-employed. Perhaps I just want to travel the world.
I want something new, but I keep my attention on the old creation. In its own time it was perfectly valid, for me or for whoever might have created it, but it’s no longer wanted.
But my attention on that old reality persists it, and not only does it persist it, but it draws more like itself to it. In other words, it gets bigger—more convincing.
Imagine a fresh loaf of bread. Straight out of the oven it’s amazing. But after a few days, it quickly becomes stale.
Creation is sort of like that. Our fresh, new creations are inspired and beautiful. But if we don’t allow ourselves to evolve, then those creations soon become stale and undesirable.
Some people keep their old, stale creations around for years. They stay in a job years past when it became uninspired and dull. They don’t imagine they can find anything better.
But we are creators, always called to newer and better creations.
It’s like an author who stops writing after their first book, or an artist who stops painting after their first painting. The first one was great, but after a while it’ll become boring.
How to Generate New Possibilities
So let’s imagine you’re feeling stuck in the midst of an old, stale creation, and you can’t see a way out. It feels too convincing—too permanent.
You must return to the field of infinite potentiality for fresh inspiration—dip the brush back into the paint for a new attempt.
As I said above, as long as you are focused on this old creation, you can’t be inspired to the new. New possibilities can’t be generated as long as you aren’t making room for them.
Generating those new possibilities is quite simple, though not always so easy.
The first step is simply to stop being so insistent on the permanence of your old, unwanted creation. Stop being so sure that there’s no way out.
I always had a strong belief that I would always have enough money. I’ve been in quite a few situations where it looked like I wouldn’t have enough money to pay a bill, or buy groceries, or whatever else I needed at the time.
But I knew that there was always enough. I would literally say, “Universe, I don’t know how you’ll work this one out, but I know you always do. So I’ll sit back and watch.”
And every single time, something happened at the last minute that brought in enough to cover whatever I needed.
This is how your attitude has to be. “I don’t know how this can happen, but there must be some way.”
Just feel even the remote possibility of things changing for you.
This field of infinite potentiality doesn’t operate on certainty. It operates on possibility. You don’t have to know, or even believe, that things will work out. You just have to allow for the possibility of it.
By the way, this is true of the law of attraction in general. You don’t have to believe that what you want is on its way. You just have to be open to the possibility of it. That’s enough for the new possibilities to be generated.
Next, simply rest in the unknown. Don’t try to make anything happen, because control is utterly foreign to this place of infinite potentiality.
Simply meditate on this unknown. Spend time in this emptiness, not trying to force anything to happen.
If you’re not sure what to focus on, just focus on the easy feeling of having the answer—of knowing what to do. I’ve called this the “answer state”, because, well, it generates answers.
In this state, ideas may arise. Random thoughts may come about. This is just the field of infinite potentiality doing its work. Don’t act on anything unless it feels absolutely inspired.
It may not arise during these meditations. Often for me it arises when I’ve gotten back into my day and just have a random thought, or read something in an article or a book.
But it will come. Out of emptiness arises new possibilities.
But most of all, I cannot emphasize enough how effortless this must all be. Force will smother the process. Keep it light and effortless, and you’ll have your new pathway in no time at all.
Being Comfortable with Uncertainty
Out of uncertainty, possibilities are generated. Uncertainty is the doorway to infinite potentiality.
People are often uncomfortable with uncertainty. They always want to know what to do next.
But you’re simply not always going to know. In fact you shouldn’t want to, because if you do know what’s coming next, it means you’re not creating from nothing, but simply adding to an existing creation. That’s OK for a while, but eventually that creation will become stale, and you have to return to the Void for a fresh, newly inspired creation.
How can you use uncertainty to your advantage? Quite easily. Just realize that your intentions don’t have to pin down every detail of your vision.
- “How will the interview go? I don’t know, but I’m sure it’ll be good.”
- “How will I get the money to go on vacation? No clue, but I’m sure it’ll happen somehow.”
- “How can I increase my income? NO idea, but I know it’s possible.”
- “How can I get more clients? I’m not sure, but I’m really excited about the potential of it.”
You see, we’re not pinning it down. We’re not saying, “The interview will go great, I’ll be offered the job on the spot and they’ll offer me $70,000 per year.” We might have some details, but often it’s a lot easier, and more freeing, just to allow the best reality to be created from the field of infinite potentiality.
That’s not to say you can’t add any details at all. Add what really matters to you, but leave the rest up to the process of creation.
Don’t feel the need to become clear on every single detail of what you want to create. Many LOA teachers say to visualize, in great detail, exactly what you want. But, this is tiring, and simply not necessary. I also find it often gets in the way of the process of pure creation from nothing.
When I got off of SSI almost two years ago now, I had no idea how it would happen, and I didn’t care. I just wanted to be off of government assistance, and the perfect opportunity arose for me to do that.
True creation relies very strongly on uncertainty, not on belief as most people say. Let yourself be uncertain. Let the details be foggy. Let the field of infinite potentiality do its work and generate for you the best creation to match exactly what you want.
In other words, be as specific as you need to be, but not so specific that you smother the process.
That’s why I have named this website Wealth Seed. When you plant a seed, you know in general what it will become, but you know almost nothing else.
So when you plant the seed for wealth, you know that it will result in greater wealth (whether material wealth or otherwise), but not how it will come about, how much it’ll be, or anything else. And that’s OK.
Plant the seed, by being open to the possibility of greater wealth, but then leave the rest up to the creation process. It’ll go far smoother that way, and you’ll absolutely love the result.
