Much to what people often say to the contrary, the law of attraction isn’t always easy.
Okay, so the actual act of holding an intention and manifesting the result is absolutely effortless. But everything that comes before that… not so much.
What I mean is that we often hold major resistance to our goals. Our subconscious mind tries to protect us from what it thinks is scary and unfamiliar.
As such, when we get seriously into this work, we can find ourselves cowering before our resistance, and finding little ways of escaping it.
The Goals and Resistance course I’m taking through The Release Technique asked me to notice my “escapes”: the little things I do every day to escape my own resistance.
I didn’t think I really did that at first. But as I looked, it became obvious that I did.
Maybe instead of dealing with a particularly tough bit of resistance, I read a book instead, or play a game. Perhaps instead of releasing on my goal, I watch TV.
It was eye-opening, to say the least, to see how I did this.
So I’ve been making a special effort lately to avoid these sorts of escapes. Of course there’s no problem reading books, playing games, or watching TV—or indeed anything else you might want to do for fun—but the point is that we often do these things as an escape from what we don’t want to face.
The mind is clever at how it slips past our defenses and encourages us to ignore those things keeping us stuck. It takes complete self-awareness to catch these forms of self-sabotage and stop them.
So I encourage you to take the rest of the day today, or tomorrow if it is already evening in your timezone, and observe your mind. Watch to see if you are tempted to escape from your negative thoughts and feelings.
Of course common LOA teaching is to distract yourself with things that feel good. But that just keeps the subconscious programs buried. Only when the subconscious mind is in full view can you start deconstructing its programs.
So when you notice those moments of escape, do your best to instead face the resistance and fully allow it.
You’ll make so much more progress this way than if you simply distracted yourself every time these subconscious programs came to the surface. Every time you release a bit of subconscious resistance, it is gone for good.
So I encourage you to try this for the rest of the day, and let me know what you experience, by simply replying to this email.
If you’ve noticed you’re escaping from doing what it takes to achieve your own goals, I would love if you’d join me in the 5 day money manifesting challenge I’m holding next week, from November 27 to December 1. Face your resistance and start seeing incredible results in your life. Just enter your email below to sign up for free.

This is something I have also realized recently! I daydream to escape reality and whatever resistance I have to it. For some reason, after starting practicing radical acceptance and mindfulness, I became more sensitive to my own resistance. I learned that I was in major denial to my own resistance, and now I know why my goals have not been manifesting before even when I thought I was feeling good about them.
Hey Bijou, I think that’s a great realization. I know sometimes we can deny our own resistance, so even though it’s unpleasant, it’s a good thing you’re coming to realize this, so you can do something about it. 🙂
