It is your attachments and aversions in life that keep you stuck. You may have an attachment to more money, and an aversion to not enough.
And as I’ve said previously, holding either an attachment or an aversion to anything in life will keep your desires away from you.
But there are also hidden attachments and hidden aversions, which are often far sneakier than the ones we know about.
For instance, you have an attachment to more money, but you also likely have an aversion to it. It feels scary, or it’s unfamiliar, or you just have beliefs about it that cause you to subconsciously push it away.
The question I often ask to reveal such hidden aversions is, “What if you got this goal tomorrow, with no effort?”
Often, sure, there’s excitement. But underneath the excitement there is also often some fear. That fear will tell you why you are holding away your goals.
There are also hidden aversions. So let’s say that you have an aversion to not having enough money, or to struggling. But, believe it or not, you could also have an attachment to it.
You might think, “This is just the way things are.” Or you might feel safer with less money.
Again this applies to any goal. I’m just using money as an example. But you could have a hidden attachment to being single, being sick, and more, depending on your specific conscious goals.
Generally the hidden attachment is just going to be the opposite of the hidden aversion to the desire. So if you have a hidden aversion to wealth because you feel you don’t deserve it, then for the same reason you have a hidden attachment to being poor.
One way you could discover the hidden attachment is by asking a similar question to the above, but in reverse. So continuing the money example, to discover a hidden attachment to being poor, you could ask something like, “What if I could never be poor ever again, no matter how hard I tried?”
With both of these exercises, simply welcome, accept, and allow whatever thoughts and feelings arise from asking these questions. If you’re familiar with the main method of The Release Technique, you can use that here, or just use their method called attachments and aversions.
The goal is to be able to ask these questions without evoking any negative feelings whatsoever. You can fully accept whatever happens equally, because you’ve given up those attachments and aversions, and can just allow your goal to come naturally without effort.
