Christine and I had a bit of what seems now to be a funny experience this morning, though it didn’t seem that way in the midst of it.
Christine has a part time job working for the church as their music coordinator. She gets paid a base amount, plus extra for things like funerals and weddings.
Well this week, she was supposed to get paid for her regular amount plus four funerals.
Now our bank has an app that notifies us on our phone every time there’s a transaction, so when I woke up this morning, I could see a deposit from Stripe (the service that processes credit cards for Co-Creation Coaching), and one deposit from the church that was way too small.
So I told Christine about it, and she called the church so they could investigate.
A bit angry at first, I decided to just keep releasing on the issue until I felt better.
So I came in my office to write this email. But before doing that, I decided to log in to my online banking to divvy up the received funds.
And I saw that there were actually two payments from the church, one of which we hadn’t been notified of.
This is unusual for them, because they always have sent it in one lump sum, not divided into two transactions like that, so I had no way of suspecting that might happen.
So very quickly I told Christine to call back and say never mind, everything was okay. That was an oops on my part. ?
Anyway, the moral of the story is that I didn’t have the whole picture. I reacted emotionally to what I thought was true, but turned out later to be totally false.
The mind does this to us all the time. It makes us fear things that may or may not be true, but more often than not turn out to be fabrications of our imagination.
There’s a story in non-dual teachings that says a man is walking along when he sees a snake. It frightens him a great deal. But then he looks again and notices it’s actually just a rope.
Once he realizes it is a rope, it no longer has the power to scare him. No matter how many other people think it is a snake and become frightened, he has realized its true nature, and simply cannot be frightened of it anymore.
The mind loves to jump to conclusions. We have to be the owner of the mind and not allow it to do that. That’s why the first thing I did when my mind started to react that way was to sit down and release on the issue until I felt better. Then I knew the solution would be around the corner.
In your life, it may seem like your goal is a million miles away. But for all you know, it could come tomorrow, or even later today.
Stop listening to your mind, and allow the wisdom of the Self to shine through. Only then will you always take right action, and see what is really there, instead of what your mind thinks is there.
