I’ve received this question quite a bit lately: What exactly is the difference between divination and the law of attraction? How can you tell intuition apart from manifestation, or is there a difference at all?
I’ve been wanting to talk about this topic for a month or so actually, but there was a lot of energy flowing through in regards to the law of attraction, which begged to be translated into posts. 🙂
But now, this is the week for such questions. I am deeming this Psychic Week! 😛
Which is perfect timing, because I am releasing my new course, Developing Your Psychic Potential, and sign-ups begin this week, with the class itself beginning on January 7. I’ll announce more about that at the end of this post.
Reality Is Malleable
The question might arise, why does it really matter that we know the difference between divination and the law of attraction?
And the answer is, because they are completely different, and used in different situations.
It’s somewhat like having a hammer and a saw, and trying to use a hammer when you need a saw, or using a saw when you need a hammer. It’s just not going to work so well.
A lot of times I get questions like, “Will the Universe tell me if X is true if I just feel good about it?” as though they are trying to manifest an answer to that question.
But the thing is, reality is extremely malleable. It is not just a matter of testing if something is true. It is more like testing the likelihood of X being true.
If you focus on testing whether X is true using the law of attraction, what is probably going to happen is that you will instead make X more likely to be true, or sometimes less likely, depending on your individual attachments and resistance.
For instance, a common one is, “Does X love me?” Generally the hope is that the answer is “yes”.
So you decide to use the law of attraction to see if X loves you. And, through your focus on whether X loves you, you start to change reality.
If you are open to the outcome you want, then you make it more likely that X does indeed love you. On the other hand, if you are resistant, and feel fear when thinking about the answer, then you make it more likely that X does not love you.
Sometimes You Just Want a Snapshot
It’s extremely difficult—I’d go so far as to say impossible—to use the law of attraction to get the answer to some question, without altering reality just by the very act of trying to manifest the answer.
Sometimes, that might be desirable to you. Sometimes, you don’t care about the current answer, and want to change reality to match what you want.
But sometimes, you just want the most likely outcome right now, without any personal influence on the answer.
For instance, “What would be the outcome if I took this path, vs. that path?”
Or, “How would I like that job?”
Or, “According to the current energy of the situation, will I get this outcome?”
This is where divination, or intuition, comes in.
Divination Is the Answer
In programming we have this concept known as input and output streams. An input stream is a stream of data that you read from, and an output stream is a stream of data that you write to. You cannot read from an input stream, or write to an output stream. They are two totally different operations.
You could imagine it like checking your email. If you want to know something from the boss, you have two options:
- Send him an email asking him your question
- Check your email and see if he’s already sent you something about it
If you send an email, you are interacting with another person. Just by the very fact of interaction, you have change reality. Perhaps he wasn’t going to send you that information until tomorrow, or even at all. But because you sent that email, he will send it immediately.
If you just check your email, though, then you can accurately determine the status of that information: either received or not received, and act on it accordingly.
There are times when each is preferred, depending on the situation.
Getting an Answer from the Universe
So now let’s imagine you have a question: “Does X love me?” So you sit down and feel good about that option.
But wait, that’s like logging into your Universal email and writing the Universe a message: “I want X to love me. Is it true yet?”
And because of that query, you are changing reality. The Universe will see that message and, based on your resistance level, either make it more or less likely. So you might get a message back saying: “It is a bit less likely that X loves you.”
Now let’s say instead you want to get the current status of the situation. So, you log in to your Universal email (I think we should call it UniMail ????), and see what’s there. And you see you have a message that says: “It is likely that X loves you.”
That’s divination. It’s reading the current status of a situation, based on the energy around it.
Divination Doesn’t Interact with Reality
Divination strives to interact with reality as little as possible. It simply wants to take a snapshot of what’s true, or most likely to be true, right now or in the future.
One final metaphor that I think is apt is the difference between a painting vs. a picture. A painting is an artist’s rendering of a scene, either in his head or what is observed in front of him, like in the case of a portrait.
A picture, on the other hand, is a snapshot of the light waves that hit the camera lens. It has no human component whatsoever, and therefore it is as true as possible to reality.
When you divine a situation, you just want to get an accurate representation of truth. When you manifest, you want to alter that truth to match what you’d like to be true.
Divination Tells You What Is Most Probable
But there’s that sticky word again: truth. Truth is an extremely changeable concept, as discussed above.
The only real truth in this moment is what is happening right now, right this very instant. It is truth right now because you have observed it. You have experienced it.
The future is a series of timelines: what might happen. Even the past is a series of timelines: what could have happened. Reality is an endless array of differing timelines. “Truth” is just the timeline you are on right now.
This is what makes questions like, “Does X love me?” so difficult. The most correct answer is, “According to what timeline?”
It is very possible that, say, on 60% of timelines, X loves you, and on 40% of timelines, X does not love you. So, what’s true?
Divination, then, is our best attempt to guess what is most likely.
A Reading Is Not Fate
Last month, Christine got a part-time job at the local Catholic church as a pianist. She had hopes of getting the full-time job.
She asked me to do a reading using the Tarot about whether she would get the job. I was hesitant, because I was biased, and it is always hard to do readings when biased. But, I agreed.
My conclusion was that she would not get the job. She would have this part-time job until about the end of December, but then the position would be filled.
But I emphasized that she could manifest a different outcome if she wanted to, at least potentially. I don’t want anyone to think that a reading is fate. Again, it is just the most likely outcome.
Well, it turned out that she had the part-time job through about the end of this month, and the position was just recently filled.
That means that I successfully tuned in to the correct timeline. However, it doesn’t mean that it had to happen this way. It could have gone on until January. It could have ended at the beginning of this month. She could have gotten the full-time job.
My job was just to get a snapshot of the current state of the situation. Her option was to alter that situation.
It’s always hard to tell timelines, especially when biased. However, throughout the whole ordeal, I did feel the timeline shift a few times. Sometimes, I thought she might possibly get it, and other times I thought she wouldn’t. But, ultimately, it ended where the reading said it would.
Psychics Can Be Wrong
So, if you go to a psychic and they give you bad news, that’s just what they see as the most likely outcome. You can change that, but fearing it will only make it more likely to happen.
Similarly, if you go to a psychic, and their prediction never turns out, it might not mean they are necessarily bad, though sometimes it certainly does. It might mean that you entered a different timeline from the one they thought you’d be on.
Sometimes, when a psychic isn’t unbiased enough, they might even read the wrong timeline.
Some psychics really have an air of doom and gloom about them. Consequently, they tend to give negative readings.
This only means that their own propensity to negativity has caused them to tune in to more negative timelines, which aren’t necessarily the most likely ones. This is itself a form of the law of attraction, because they have manifested reading the exact timelines they are a match to. It says more about them than it does about you.
Even if the psychic really hopes that you’ll find love, for instance, that can influence them to tune in to the timelines where that is true.
Or sometimes, they might be jaded about love, so they tend to tune in to timelines where relationships don’t work out, or where there are a lot more difficulties than in reality.
As a psychic, meditation is invaluable. Removing your own judgments and opinions from a situation is vital. It takes a lot of training to tune in to the proper timelines.
How to Use Divination
So, if you do want to get a snapshot of a situation, how do you do it?
The first way is to actually go to a psychic. I offer Tarot readings for just this reason, for those who just want to get an idea of what their future holds in store according to the current energies of the situation.
But, you can learn to do it yourself, too.
The easiest way is simply to enter the zero state, and bring up your question, without emotion.
Technically, this isn’t divination at all, but using your intuition, but it’s the same kind of idea.
You’ll likely get some sort of information. Sometimes it’s a gentle but insistent “yes” or “no”. Sometimes it’s a stream of information that you have to decode through the various psychic senses.
The other option is to use a divinatory tool, like the Tarot, pendulum, I Ching, runes, etc. There are endless ways that you can use everyday items to divine the future.
Developing Your Psychic Potential
But, again, it takes some training to use either your intuition, or a divinatory tool.
That is why I’m offering my new course, Developing Your Psychic Potential. I will show you exactly how to tune in to your own intuition, use divinatory tools if you want to, make sure you’re getting the most accurate information, access the Akashic Records, communicate with your spirit guides, and a lot more.
I was going to try to squeeze this one into 3 weeks like I have with my other classes, but I realized there’s just far too much information.
So this course is going for 4 weeks instead of 3.
The format is going to be a bit different than previous ones, with more information given in text lessons, and the calls being more for overview, questions, and experiential exercises.
The course is going to sell for $97, but if you sign up by January 1, you can get 25% off, only paying $72.75.

Great topic!
You can definitely change your reality, no matter what anyone says or what you initially think. Also, if you do come across a very negative person who gives you a negative prediction, you must be resistant yourself and hold some insecurity about it. For example, my friend came across a very negative professor who told her she won’t amount to anything and not get to where she wants to go. He was also complaining about his son being unemployed, so he was on a bad mood and influenced by that. She herself had some uncertainty about it, but when she started feeling more comfortable about it and confident, she manifested a good deal at a graduate school so it did not matter what that professor told her. Since then she does not come into contact with such people anyway.
The same thing goes for love. If you are insecure, X may be turned off. If you are confident you will one day be together, you will. I have seen this work countless times, including in my own life. Also, you know if someone loves you or not. You also know if someone can fall for you or not. I think people do not listen to this and they go ahead anyway and then run into problems. Timing is also important in love. If it does not work out now with someone, you may need to spend time apart only to come together again at a later time when you are both better and more secure in yourselves to make the relationship work. I saw some of Moonstruck last night and the Universe Brought these two people together. She was engaged to his brother, yet they still got together. The U always finds ways to make these things happen.
Oh, and the guy maimed himself so his previous fiance can leave him. He thought she left him, but in reality he did it to himself. This is how powerful we are. I am telling you, our reality is the product of the stuff we have inside. If we totally forgive ourselves for stuff, are confident that the future will be awesome and things will keep getting better and better and listen to our intuition when it speaks to us, then we will be fine.
Hi Kat,
All so true.
I agree someone can manifest a negative prediction. That’s really why it’s one of your timelines, because your focus is there even just a little bit.
But just like with your friend, it doesn’t mean that has to become reality, if you don’t allow it to scare you and put more of your focus on it. That’s really the key.
Great thoughts, though, and all totally true. We are extremely powerful indeed.
Yes, it reminds me of the subatomic particle. When we focus on it is acts a certain way, then when we are off it it may even disappear for us until we see it again and it behaves another way. It is all in the eyes of the beholder. Since we are star stuff, then this goes for us as well.
Another case in point. I hate that my parents neighbor throws bread crumbs outside their house. My argument is why doesn’t he do it in front of his house and get all the birds to gather there. Also, you do not need to feed birds, as they die from overeating. They find food, believe me. Anyway, it does not bother my parents at all. Well, it turns out I saw some crumbs outside someone else’s house as well. They are related, so I will drop this subject altogether and people can just suck it.
Yep exactly. That’s why the zero state is so important. it allows you to take your focus off of the resistance, and so that reality can shift while you’re not looking. When you’re looking at it, when you’re observing it, it has to remain the same. It can’t shift. The zero state allows you to get out of that pattern.
That’s a great story about the breadcrumbs. 🙂
Yes! Lately I also add to be pure at heart, ie., not be bogged down with negitive stuff becasue this slows your progress and manofestations. I noticed that when I manifested easily, I was not annpyed by things and I was pure of heart. I did not pay attention to what was goig on around me nor did I complain too much about things nor did I comment about the studpidity of others. WEhen I do this, it slows me down, so with the zero state I would add pure of heaert. I hope this makes sense.
Oh, and I spoke with a really successful person on Christmas and I told her straight out that I expect her to be this beacon of light and in a good mood and happy. She said that is a very tall order and just not possible. She is seldom in a good mood and not happy go lucky at all. What she does is focus on her stuff and pretty much ignore others and their problems and doesn’t let anything of the sort bog her down. But happy she is not, so this is yet more evidence that it is not part of the equation for success.
Hi Kat,
Yes, all very correct. We talked a lot more about this in tonight’s support call, which I’ll post up tomorrow. 🙂
But, that “pure of heart” I see as just really living from the zero state, and not allowing things to bother you. All very important.
I agree with that successful person. On the support call, you’ll hear about my huge goal this month, which I successfully met. However, I did not really feel that great about it, or sometimes even believe in it. However, I was persistent, and kept choosing my goal, and so it happened.
Happiness is just an emotion. It comes and goes. But the zero state is always present, beneath it all.

Congrats on your goal! That is fantastic! Of course, feeling and being pleasant help you move along and help others in helping you as well and being more receptive to you, but are not prerequisites to success.
I also thought about the fact that all successful people had to struggle against what others thought about them, against their own fears, insecurities and doubts, yet they powered through it all. That is why speeches are so moving. When given an award, a person usually states how hard it was, yet, despite it all, they persevered. Kesha said she had to drag herself out of bed to go accept her award, which goes to show that she is not such a happy shiny puppy wagging her tail all the time. You have to keep going despite your feelings.
Right, exactly. It’s not always easy. But, persistence does it. 🙂 It’s all about choice.
Z, if you’re reading, hope you’re making some breakthroughs on some front. Let us know.
I have little moments of hope which usually get smashed to pieces in no time flat, leaving me totally devastated and lost. Feeling lost, baseless and disconnected from everything is terrifying.
Having a plan for manifestation is far too risky for me right now. Another dashed hope would push me well beyond the coping limit and that’s not something I will risk. I need peace of mind badly, and I’m becoming extremely desperate for relief that remains out of reach.
That is okay. Then take some time and meditate, enter the zero state regularly even in normal consciousness, do things that are enjoyable. Just get your focus off of the unwanted for a while.
Is there consciousness on the other timelines, or are they like empty settings–like scenes set in a play that might wind up getting used, but no one will experience if they don’t get used? The thought that there are other versions of me on other timelines experiencing everything makes me very uncomfortable. Some LOA people say, “Every possible timeline is actually real and actual. There’s a version of you on a timeline who is right now a TV star and very happy, and there is a version of you on a timeline who is being tortured and feels horrible right now, and they are all equally real,” and so on. I don’t mind there being a possibility of my getting tortured, but the idea that that timeline has some degree of reality now and that some person (effectively me) is getting tortured is just horrible. I don’t even know which would be worse, to be the me on the timeline getting tortured or to know that other Lisas were suffering and I just happened to be on the nicer timeline. Are future or alternate timelines real (real as in there are real consciousnesses there experiencing things)? Or are they just possibilities that have no reality yet (and thus the “Lisa” on that timeline is just a role that might get played, not an actual feeling person)?
Hi Lisa,
My view is that everything is consciousness. It’s impossible to separate anything from it. The foundation of the Universe is actually consciousness, before even matter or anything else.
My view, then, is that there is some reality to these timelines.
I tend to see it between those two different options. it’s not necessarily as real and concrete as you said, with literally another dimension with these things happening right now. Nor do I see it as just empty roles waiting to be filled, because that sounds like it is separate from consciousness.
It’s more like how I’d imagine quantum probability waves to be. The cat can be both alive and dead equally, but you don’t know which is on our timeline, in concrete reality, until you open the box and look. The particle can be both here and there, but once you look at it, it’ll tend to decide on one or the other.
You are both potentially a TV star, being tortured, and living the life you live now, plus a whole bunch of others. Your continued creation of life will collapse these probabilities into concrete reality. But, they all exist in a real sort of way. Does that make sense?
I’m not sure I understand yet. What I really want to know is, is there some version of me actually experiencing these things, the way that I experience things? If you mean “consciousness is there” in sort of the same way that people mean “consciousness is in the rocks, the trees, the galaxies,” then I don’t have a problem with that. If you mean that “Alternate-Timeline Tortured Lisa suffers the way you would suffer if you were getting tortured,” then that seems very dismal. (It would then also be true that Alternate-Timeline ultra-rich and fabulous Lisa would be happy the way I would be in those circumstances, but I would just rather have neither than both, if it means Tortured Lisa wouldn’t be suffering.)
So, Brandon, it appears to me that when we stretch ourselves to achieve our goals, perhaps we are not meant to be happy. I mean, it is a choice we make. We can choose to be okay with how we are and be happy. Although most people in our society are not happy since they are stretching themselves to do things, and also tolerate things they may not really like, this begs the question if happiness is meant to be naturally. Of course, if you choose it then you can be content and make yourself feel happy. Masters remind you that there is no reason to be sad, so you might as well be happy.
I am comparing this state to those who are in poverty who are happy, yet they have nothing else nor do they believe anything else is possible. You can’t even tell them to get up and go because they would not understand it. They have no other choice then to be happy. I know I probably lost you here, but I am trying to see if, in the state we are in, we are meant to be happy as creators.
I think that stillness is our natural state, in the zero state. That can sometimes be described as happy, but it’s not. Happiness is an emotion. We’re meant to have it when we have it. But it’s best to live from the zero state.
But, I think what you’re getting at is what I said in the post on tension. You have to get comfortable with tension. It’s only through tension that reality changes.
I’ll be talking about this in next Monday’s post, but there are two cycles: contraction (or tension) and relaxation. Sort of like a muscle. 🙂 If your muscles are constantly relaxed, nothing happens. They actually atrophy. They need contraction, they need tension, in the proper proportions and in the proper ways, to get anything done.
Both contraction and relaxation are needed. Too much contraction also hurts you. But, some people just aren’t comfortable reaching for something that doesn’t exist, and experiencing that tension.
Ah, yes, I totally get it. In Greek, they say that being “anesthetic” or “anesthitos” leads you to where you want to go. That is, with no emotion, as it gets in the way and it is best not to react to anything.
Yes, stillness is the natural state. So, happiness and all that are perhaps overrated? Maybe too much is made of it. Why isn’t it being calm and relaxed? I mean, as you very well pointed out, after contraction relaxation is required, otherwise its no good.
And I totally get your response to Lisa. There is full potential everywhere. It is what we make of it at the moment but we can keep going and going. That was the gist in the ebook I read There is No Self to Help, because you can always change yourself. Having a personality of a certain type ids overrated, according to the book, as you can change that as well! It is just that society generally does not see this.
Right, relaxation and stillness is the key.
Happiness is absolutely overrated by the law of attraction crowd. It’s just an emotion that may or may not be here. The “happiness” that Derek was talking about in last week’s post I see more as spiritual peace. We really should separate those words, because happiness, the emotion, is not the same as spiritual peace or fullness. The latter is important, and is a result of the zero state, but the former should not be clung to.
And yes I agree about potential. Really how I see it is as a web of potential energies all around us. Focusing on one of those energy streams will collapse it into reality, and that’s manifestation. In my old law of attraction course, I called it the infinite matrix, I believe.
“In Greek, they say that being “anesthetic” or “anesthitos” leads you to where you want to go”.
Hi Kat. Can you expand on this please? Maybe some references? Thanks.
Sure, CJ. I attended school there and they always said to make is as a professional, you need to be αναίσθητος or unfeeling, but it also means unconscious and insensitive. However, they meant the former.
I understand more now what was meant by that and Greeks are a good example. I mean, most are very serious people who complain a lot, too much I’d say, yet they are pretty successful. They have fun, of course, but to laugh all the time is considered rather buffoonery. I mean, it has to be done elegantly so to speak to be considered charming and charismatic.
Anyway, what they meant was to not get caught in a sticky situation if you come across one and cut right through it. Don’t take things personally either and don’t get too emotional about anything. Keep a stiff upper lip. There’s always a next time no matter what and don’t get caught up in what you are told, follow your heart. This is the gist behind the saying. I hope this clarifies.
Even though it was for CJ, I also appreciate the clarification. It’s so perfect for what the law of attraction is all about. And I think if you look at successful people in any culture, you will see many of the same qualities. They don’t get caught up in every little thing that comes by. Sometimes it takes 9 failures before you succeed on the 10th attempt.
This business, Co-Creation Coaching, is probably my 5th or 6th attempt at doing what I wanted to do with my life. I did come close to giving up sometimes. Sometimes I thought I should just take the traditional route. But then I started Co-Creation Coaching, and everything just happened from there.
Well, obviously, it took, and still takes, tons of work. But I enjoy it like nothing else. I probably spent 14+ hours per day working the last 3 days, to get the site where I want it to be now. I don’t just sit around and wish for good things. 🙂 But it doesn’t feel like work.
Thanks B. I’d also like to add that this in no way means one needs to be a jerk or bad person or show lack of compassion, although many successful people do. The ones who really stand out, however, are actually good, kind people who don’t bother or harm others. They mind their own business and keep their nose to the grindstone along with having fun along the way, but they don’t get caught up in the hype around them. They ignore it and focus on what they need to do. And you gave a wonderful example of this with your business!
Also, in the call, Christine did not get the full time job and it was for the best. We should therefore not lament such occasions and not look at them as failures. The more I actually study spirituality the more I understand that there is no failure and society is wrong yet again. Things do happen for a reason. The events of 2016 prove this.
Exactly. She thought she wanted it, but as she said, she was relieved when she didn’t get it. But I believe something better will come along, because it always does. 🙂
Congrats on your goal! That is fantastic! Of course, feeling and being pleasant help you move along and help others in helping you as well and being more receptive to you, but are not prerequisites to success.

Great post Brandon and great comments too. Lisa thank you for asking those questions. I am sure most of us felt that way at some point in our lives.
What I am experiencing is everything is available to me at the same time. Means I can be happy famous t v star and I can be miserable. But I have a freedom to choose What I want to become my major reality. And to make constant choices well we need lots of practice to be aware of what’s happening. it’s just impossible to be calm and happy at all the time. But I noticed that mediation and mindfulness are helping me to get over unwanted feelings quickly. But I accept feelings as they come. Whatever they are. I know no matter how much I will improve I am still going to be a human which will be imperfect in some way.
Brandon thank you for shading some light on intuitions. Yes they are always there always. We can’t try to feel some particular way no matter what. Feelings come naturally and we just feel them. And I think thats why feelings are our important guiding system. They surely know what’s true for us.
Psyche or astrologer can helps us a bit to see what possibilities are there but We know our answers before even going to psyche or anybody whom we think might help us. It’s all about validation. We want some validation from somebody to feel good about our decision or at least to know we are on the right path. But no matter who says what we still have free will to choose anything we want.
Thanks, Rhea. All very true. 🙂
yes we always have a choice of what we will create. All of those possibilities are always open to us.
And meditation does indeed help with that. 🙂
I appreciate your comments.

I spend most of my day resisting painful emotions rather than falling into them and allowing them to stay as long as they want. Going to try the opposite to see if it frees up energy.
I definitely believe it will. Energy needs to be released and allowed in order to flow. Clamping down on it doesn’t do anything beneficial.

I am a psychic junkie..I love calling psychics I think they are just so fun. However, out of all the readings I’ve gotten in the last year, hardly anything ever came to fruition except for the random occurrences. (and the cool thing is, most of those psychics gave me the SAME predictions with the SAME timeframes…so it must also mean that they were tapping into something real).
I don’t understand why nothing came to fruition..is it because timeframes are hard to be exact on? Or is it because by me knowing the outcome it actually changes or delays them?
Likely you had some sort of energetic shift, which allowed you to walk a different path. But also sometimes, and I’m not saying you did this, but just something that happens… sometimes if we don’t respect the art, the answers we can get from the Universe, it’ll give us garbage answers. The Universe definitely has a sense of humor, and opinions on how we should be doing things like that.
oooh really? so the universe has a mind of its own??
Well, depends how you see it. I work with specific deities, so yes, definitely. The Universe itself doesn’t have a mind of its own, but entities in the Universe do, including your spirit guides.
