There is one concept when discussing the law of attraction, that I feel is far underrepresented. I’ve been discussing it at length in my private classes, and with clients, but realized I had never mentioned this concept directly on the blog. I’ve referred to it indirectly, but never truly described what exactly it is.
It is so important that, in my opinion, you cannot go far in manifesting without mastery of this teaching.
What exactly is this concept? It is what I call the zero state.
What Is the Zero State?
The zero state isn’t something you’ll hear much about in LOA circles. You might see indirect references to some equivalent concepts, but in my experience, there’s nothing that’s very well-explained.
In fact, if you search for “law of attraction zero state” in Google, well actually it takes you right back to darkascent.org, at least at the time of this post. 🙂
But one of the other results farther down the page is a review of the book Zero Limits: The Secret Hawaiian System for Wealth, Health, Peace, and More by Joe Vitale and Ihaleakala Hew Len. I have read this book, and this might be where I came across this concept for the first time. However, I would not recommend the book, personally.
Richard Dotts has referred to something very similar, which he’s called both the “zero point”, as well as the “zero state”, in several of his books. The book Your Greatest Gift: That Unlocks All Manifestations is a good introduction to it. Perhaps I will write a book review on it sometime.
It goes by many other names, as well. Deepak Chopra calls it the “field of pure potentiality” in his book The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success: A Practical Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams. Advaitans call it “witness consciousness” or just “awareness”. Others refer to it simply as “inner peace”.
It is somewhat akin to what Abraham-Hicks calls “the vortex”, though I see it as not exactly the same thing. The vortex, in their teaching, is more of a joyous state, which is extremely positive.
To me, that is not the zero state. The zero state, to me, is totally neutral. There is certainly a very light, positive energy about it, as this is your true essence, but it is not a bouncing-off-the-walls kind of energy, to say the least.
All right, so what exactly is the zero state, then?
The zero state is, essentially, you. It is you in your true nature. It is your true Self.
It is you, when you are fully who you are. If you are like most people, then you are frequently influenced by outside circumstances. You have resistant thoughts come up, because you feel reality should be other than it is.
Of course, the law of attraction is all about making reality other than it is. But, when you are outside the zero state, you see reality as a threat to you.
So, the zero state is perfect security and perfect confidence. It is being fully rooted in the present moment, knowing that nothing can possibly go wrong.
In one statement, the zero state is the state of no resistance.
A Life of No Resistance
Imagine for a moment what it would be like to live with no resistance.
Negative emotions would be at an end. A negative emotion is simply the result of creative Universal Energy conflicting with the focus of your attention in the moment, in a way that is opposed to your desires.
For instance, if you focus on lack, you are directing Universal Energy to the vibration of lack. However, lack conflicts with your desires, and so the clash of that energy creates negative emotion.
The only reason you were focused on lack, though, is because you had resistance to abundance. If you had no resistance to abundance, then your focus would naturally land on what you want—i.e., abundance—and Universal Energy would flow there, instead.
So, no resistance, no negative emotion. There’s simply nothing for Universal Energy to conflict with.
That doesn’t mean you would always be in a super positive state, and that’s why I’m not a huge fan of the concept of “the vortex”. Energy comes in waves. To try to always be positive is just as bad as trying to push away negative emotions.
But, a state of no resistance means that there is a constant foundation of inner peace and stillness, which cannot be shaken. This inner stillness is a fertile ground for positive emotions to come through, but you would not feel the need to cling on to these positive emotions. No matter what was here or wasn’t here, you would be perfectly fine.
And finally, a life of no resistance would mean near instant manifestations. There is still generally a buffer of time, just because of the physical world we live in, but that buffer would be much, much smaller. You’d get manifestations in hours, if not minutes.
Why? Because once you had the thought of what you want, Universal Energy would instantly flow in that direction, and with no resistance to counteract it, it would manifest extremely quickly.
Are you starting to see why the zero state can be very useful? In the zero state, all resistance is neutralized, and as a result, you experience near instant manifestations.
That’s why I feel this is one of the most important concepts of the law of attraction. Properly understood, it can help you circumvent any resistance for any manifestation. But of course, it takes training of your focus, and the persistence to hold the vision of what you want.
You Don’t Need to Constantly Be in the Zero State
The good news is, you don’t need to be in the zero state 24 hours a day. Obviously, this would be a rather high barrier to entry if this were required in order to manifest your desires.
It really only requires that you enter the zero state for at least a few seconds.
In fact, it is one of the steps in the new 5-step manifestation process I teach in The Art of Reality Creation.
Of course, it’s desirable to stay in the zero state for as long as possible. But when you are used to egoic consciousness, it can be difficult to live from the zero state for very long periods at once.
So, why isn’t it necessary? Well, because the best time to be in the zero state when intending your manifestation, is during the actual intending process itself, which previously I’ve recommended doing once per day.
During that time, being in the zero state is absolutely essential. It’s also highly recommended any time you think of your goal, because otherwise resistance could easily come up and slow your positive momentum.
Other than that, don’t expect perfection. Negative emotions will come, and it is okay. Just do the best you can throughout the day to release them, even a little bit, and you’ll be fine.
However, as you increase your time in the zero state, your manifestations will come more and more quickly, because there is less and less resistant energy throughout the day. But, even if you just enter the zero state when you intend your manifestation, and don’t think of your goal anymore that day, it will cause your manifestation to come very quickly.
Remember, in that moment of being in the zero state, there are no obstacles. When you set your intention in the zero state, it is like dropping a pebble into a still lake. The ripples it sends out have no interference, thanks to the stillness of the water. This is like having no resistance, and the ripples of your intention go out, and quickly return to you.
But outside the zero state, it’s like dropping a pebble into a turbulent lake. The water isn’t in a fit condition to create perfect ripples. This is like having heavy resistance, and so your intention cannot accomplish its task.
The lake doesn’t always need to be still for you to create ripples. It only needs to be still at the moment you drop the pebble into the water.
So likewise, your mind doesn’t always need to be still for you to create your manifestation. It simply needs to be still at the moment you drop the pebble of your intention into the waters of your mind. If the ripples of your intention are unimpeded, then your manifestation will come quickly.
How to Enter the Zero State
Now the all-important question, how exactly do you enter the zero state?
It’s not as hard as you might think. Keep in mind that the zero state is your essential nature. It is who you really are, when you are not holding resistance.
The best and easiest way to enter it is by simply being still. Sit still and relaxed, with your eyes closed, and take a few deep breaths. Allow yourself to focus within.
At first, negative thoughts will arise. The waters are turbulent, because they are not used to being still.
But again, stillness is the nature of your mind. Ignore these turbulent thoughts; do not give them your focus or emotional investment. Simply acknowledge them, and let them pass by.
If you have done this successfully, then within a few minutes, you will enter the zero state.
You will know when you are there. To me, it feels like I’m floating in a sea of calm. It feels like weight has been taken off my chest. It feels like I can breathe easily. It feels like flowing and ease.
Your experience might be different, but it will be similar to what I’ve described.
Notice that this is not joy or bliss. At first you might have some very positive emotions, but if you sit with them for another few minutes, they will pass, and you’ll be left with stillness.
Once you reach this state, just bask in it for as long as you want to. You can do it for 30 seconds, or 30 minutes. But don’t be too hard on yourself. Even reaching this state is an impressive accomplishment. Practice daily reaching the zero state, and stay with it for longer and longer periods of time.
If you could not reach it, it is perfectly okay. You’re not used to not giving credence to your negative thoughts. Remember that they are only thoughts. They have no reality of their own, unless and until you give them reality through your focus.
Simply keep practicing. Each day, you’ll get closer and closer to the zero state.
Remember, too, that it takes no effort to reach the zero state. If you are trying, then you are not doing it. It is a state of pure beingness.
There are other ways of reaching it, too, such as The Sedona Method®, or EFT. But honestly, the most direct method is what I described above. These other methods can get you there, and are useful if you get stuck, but it’s much faster just to go within and be still, if you are able.
Dropping Your Intention in the Zero State
After you get used to being in the zero state, you can start to set your intentions while in that state.
There are two ways of doing this, depending on the amount of resistance in the intention.
The first method is to bring up the intention while in the zero state. Simply think of your goal, either as an affirmation, visualization, or kinesthetic anchor.
You can hold the feeling of that intention for a few seconds, and then totally let it go, returning to the stillness of the zero state.
This is the fastest method. The feeling of your intention, which I call the vibrational signature, will be the only feeling against the background of stillness. This is that single pebble dropped into the lake, with no interference.
However, if there is a lot of resistance, then it could kick you right out of the zero state. In this case, you need to add an additional step.
To make this work, remember that resistance is only a thought, to which you have an emotional reaction.
You can let go of that thought, just as easily as you let go of your negative thoughts in order to reach the zero state.
So let’s say you think of your intention while in the zero state, and a lot of resistance comes up. A thought comes that says, “That’s not possible.”
Your natural reaction is to feel fearful and anxious about it. Other thoughts might come that say, “What if it really isn’t possible?” Or, “I’m silly for trying this.”
But instead, you simply let the resistance be. You acknowledge it, but give it no attention or emotional investment. You let those thoughts go right on by, without giving them any energy.
This is insanely difficult at first, I admit. But, the process of doing this will help your manifestation immensely.
If you successfully ignore your resistance, allowing it to simply pass through, then you will return to the zero state, while maintaining the feeling, or vibrational signature, of your intention.
You’ll feel that vibration in the purest way possible, which leads to the fastest manifestations.
Other resistance might come up, but you simply repeat the same process of acknowledging it, and letting it go.
Once you have that pure vibrational feeling in mind, and nothing else, then continue as before. Hold it for a few seconds, until it feels right to you, and just let it go, returning to the zero state.
After a moment, then come back to normal waking consciousness, and do your best to focus on other matters.
Now again, if your goal comes up throughout the day, do your best to not hold resistance, just as described above.
As always, I recommend doing this once per day, no more or less.
