Sometimes, we law of attraction practitioners are accused of being delusional.
We’re told that we should face “reality”.
And, we all know how fluid reality really is. We know that current outer reality is just the crystallized form of our thoughts and feelings in the past.
So, we happily turn our attention to what we really want, doing anything we can to feel good, and completely ignore whatever is in front of us.
Yet, you have people who are in favor of the exact opposite: complete and total present moment awareness.
So, which is it? Does the law of attraction require you to ignore current reality?
A Brief Story
Before I get into that, I’d like to tell a bit of a story that happened to me quite a while ago.
Someone on a certain law of attraction forum private messaged me, and wanted to connect on Skype, so that we could have “rampages of appreciation”.
That sounded pretty cool. So, we exchanged Skype details, and soon were chatting on Skype.
Everything seemed okay at first. We were talking about our experience with Abraham-Hicks and the law of attraction. I was happy to have met a new friend, as I don’t have many people in real life who are into the law of attraction, or spirituality in any way at all.
But pretty soon, it began to feel extremely fake.
Most of his statements were just recycled Abraham quotes, or references to Abraham.
It took some pulling of teeth to get him to tell me anything about himself.
I asked the question, “What have you manifested so far?” And he evaded the question expertly. He said things like, “The biggest things I have manifested are intensely positive feeling ideas and feelings,” and, “I manifested becoming a vibrational king.”
And, honestly, do the material things matter? No, of course not, but I was getting the overwhelming vibe that nearly all of this was a façade, to escape the fact that all these apparent positive feelings had resulted in nothing.
I learned that he was 28, with no job or no way of making money, and no relationship. His dream was to win the lottery.
And I’m not writing this to make fun of him. Honestly at the time it made me very sad, to think that someone was using these teachings to basically escape life.
Don’t Contract What-Is-Itis
All of his escaping reality did nothing for him. I didn’t stay around to learn what happened to him, but my guess is that eventually, the house of cards he carefully built would come crashing down upon him.
And he’d be left with a chronic case of what-is-itis.
What is what-is-itis?
It’s when you fight so hard to ignore what is, but the more you fight what is, the more what is becomes apparent to you. And the more apparent what is becomes, the harder you fight it, and so the more it pushes back.
Eventually, the strength of that resistance overwhelms your attempts to escape reality, and you’re left with no choice but to face current reality as it is.
Your affected positive attitude was only a bandage over a gaping wound, and life ripped that bandage off to let the underlying injury truly heal.
Life Isn’t Concerned About Your Feelings
Life isn’t concerned that this process might be hard for you.
Of course, suffering can always be avoided. But, the more you resist, the more it will hurt.
Life is concerned only with freedom.
And every experience you have is pointing directly to greater and greater freedom.
But as we ignore these pointers that life generously sends our way, the pointers have to get bigger and bigger.
When someone tries to get your attention, they might start by softly saying your name.
But if you don’t answer, they’ll say it again. And if still you don’t hear them, they’ll say it a bit louder. Eventually, they might yell.
That’s how life is when it’s trying to get our attention. If we ignore the pointers it sends us, that we are headed away from freedom, then it’ll send a bigger pointer, and a bigger pointer, and a bigger pointer still.
It’ll keep ramping up its attempts until you finally receive the message.
Or, imagine you have a giant rubber band that’s tying you to your true Source, where all happiness and freedom is found.
The further away you stray from this Source, the harder the rubber band pulls back.
If you persist in moving away from who you really are, then it’ll pull harder still.
Eventually, the strength of its pull will overwhelm your resistance against it, and you’ll be pulled back.
But, it’d be so much easier if you would have felt the tug, and just heeded the message.
Won’t Facing Reality Just Create More of the Same?
The reason people are concerned to face reality is because we’re inundated with these teachers who tell us that if we think about what is, then what is will just get bigger.
And that is partially true, but only partially.
The truth is that whatever you resist will get bigger.
If you resist current reality, then current reality will indeed get bigger in ways you won’t like.
But if we just ignore it, that resistance will just get caught in our subconscious, and will create more of the same, anyway.
See, your conscious mind can only focus on one thing at a time.
But, your subconscious mind can have potentially thousands of beliefs, and all of those beliefs are being created in outer reality from moment-to-moment.
- Your beliefs about money are keeping you at the financial level you are at now.
- Your beliefs about relationships are creating the state of your love life every day.
- Your beliefs about health are constantly creating your current level of physical well-being.
All of these beliefs are actively creating your reality, with or without your conscious consent.
So, while you might think you have ignored current reality, you’ve really just repressed it, causing it to become an active belief in your subconscious mind.
So, it’s really the opposite of what they say: ignoring reality will actually cause it to get worse, if you haven’t resolved your resistance against it.
And when you repress your resistance, you’re just forcing it to get bigger later on, as I discussed above.
Releasing Your Resistance
So, instead of ignoring reality, what you want to do is to release your resistance against it.
Basically, when you think of your current reality, it holds an emotional charge for you.
The bigger that emotional charge, the bigger a player it is in creating your future reality.
So, what you must do is to remove the emotional charge.
Get to a place so that when you look at current reality, you simply feel at peace.
You might think that is impossible, but I’ve demonstrated it over and over again.
Check out last weekend’s Practical LOA webinar, where the client was able to remove a great deal of resistance from her current situation.
When you use the techniques I’ve been writing about, your resistance will be released, and current reality will not have such a pull on you anymore.
In particular, work on simply accepting what is, including your feelings about what is.
Make everything just be okay right here in the moment, even your resistance against it.
The more you simply allow, the more you’ll let go of the subconscious beliefs that have kept this active in your outer reality.
Don’t Be Afraid of Your Thoughts
Your thoughts hold no power over you, unless you resist them.
Thoughts, once allowed, have no power to create in your reality.
In a state of complete allowing, you are God over your universe. Your intentions are made manifest very quickly.
But, if your resist your thoughts and feelings, then you have made them master over you. You then have no power, except to allow.
As LOA practitioners, we tend to give a lot of power to our thoughts.
But they really have none, when fully allowed to flow through your awareness.
What has power is your intention. Your intention sets universal forces into motion that will quickly bring your manifestation to you, so long as you do not hold resistance against it.
So, take time and purposely remind yourself that there is no need to fear your thoughts.
Having a thought about being poor will not condemn you to a life of poverty.
It’s just energy. And if you fully allow it, it’ll simply flow through.
And the more you allow it, the weaker the underlying belief becomes, too.
So the next time the thought comes up, it won’t hold so much trepidation for you.
Just allow, and let go.
This is the best and most beneficial thing you can do for yourself.
Just allow and let go.
Then, gently set the intention of the reality you want to create.
Don’t Obsess Over Your Problem
I also don’t want your ego to use this advice as an opportunity to now obsess over your problem, and think about it all day long.
See, the common advice of LOA teachers is partially true, as I said above.
The part where it is true is that once you release the resistance, you really won’t think about this “problem” anymore.
You’ll simply let it go from your conscious awareness.
But, there is a difference between simply letting something go, and pushing it away so you can pretend it doesn’t exist.
Unfortunately, most people do the latter.
They refuse to think about the issue, but meanwhile it is getting bigger and bigger in their subconscious.
So the common advice of “ignore what is”, is more of an end-result than an actionable step.
How can you possibly ignore what is unless you have released your resistance against it?
I’ll demonstrate this principle for you now:
Let’s take your computer as an example.
Notice that you really don’t think about the computer itself very often.
You might think about going on the computer, checking your email, surfing the web, etc.
But how often do you think about the computer itself?
Now, if you started to have a fear that any day now, your computer was going to fail in some way—maybe get a virus, the hard drive become corrupted, or something else—now how often would you think about it?
Likely, every waking moment.
You’d think about all the possibilities. What would you do if it didn’t work anymore? You’d think about how much you rely on it. You’d get angry for it not lasting. You might be anxious about finding the money to repair it, or get a new computer.
And, the more you think about it, with this resistance in place, the bigger that subconscious belief becomes.
But, if somehow that fear was dispelled, you’d return back to barely ever thinking about your computer.
Now transfer this example to your problem of choice.
Maybe it’s money for you. Think about how much time you spend fearing the worst. But if that resistance were released, how much would you then think about it? Probably barely ever, and if you did, it would be in a light, positive way.
Now, coming back to the computer example, how useful would it be if I came up to you and said, “Just ignore your computer problem.”
You might try, but that fear would still be in the back of your mind, festering.
That’s exactly how every other issue is, too.
So, release the resistance. But, don’t tell your mind what it should or shouldn’t focus on. That’s just adding more resistance to the mix.
Just fully allow everything that comes, whether that’s a thought of poverty, or endless riches.
All thoughts should be allowed to simply pass through, with neither grasping nor pushing away.
- Neither cling to the thought of wealth, nor push away the thought of poverty.
- Neither cling to the thought of a happy relationship, nor push away the thought of loneliness or an unhappy relationship.
- Neither cling to the thought of health, nor push away the thought of sickness.
This is Peace. And in this state, you can manifest anything.
So, face reality head-on. Let it be an opportunity to dig up those old subconscious beliefs, and simply allow them fully. Thank your current reality for the opportunity to do some clean-up in your subconscious mind, because it’s only by letting go of these beliefs that you can hope to make room for better.
