A lot of people believe that there is some universal plan for their lives, and for the world as a whole. They often use this belief as a way to dismiss their own desires: “What if it’s not part of the universal plan? Can the law of attraction still work for me?”
I used to have this same fear. Growing up, I strongly believed that I was meant to help others. But, as I got older, this fear arose. I feared that perhaps the Universe had some other plan for me. I feared that my own desires didn’t really matter.
And isn’t that really what it all comes down to? We all fear that our desires don’t matter—that our desires won’t be attainable in the end.
How can you reconcile, then, the belief that you can create your own reality, with the belief that there is some greater plan for us all?
Did we come here for some particular lesson, and are we allowed to go off course if so? Can our desires be overridden?
Those are the questions I’ll be answering in today’s post.
Why You Came into This Life
Yes, it’s true, you came into this life with some intentions. We seem to understand this on an intuitive level.
However, it’s not supposed to be a stick to hit yourself over the head with.
The misunderstanding stems from two sources:
First, you think that God, the Universe, Source, or whatever, has sent you into this life with certain lessons to learn, or certain events to experience.
But, no. You, actually, were the one who set the parameters for your life.
Perhaps you don’t remember this, because it was the greater part of you, what you might call the higher self, who set these intentions.
But, that higher self is just as much a part of you. Once you die and return to pure positive energy, you will remember those intentions that you set. You will remember not only your intentions for this life, but you will also remember every one of your other lives that you have lived.
You retain very little of the awareness of your higher self, but that is okay.
The point is, these intentions weren’t forced upon you. They were freely chosen by you.
The second source of misunderstanding is that you think you had specific ideas of what you had to experience in this lifetime.
But, your intentions were very general.
- You had the intention for wellbeing, as your higher self still holds that intention.
- You had the intention of wonderful, joyous experiences.
- You had the intention of contrast, and inspiring new, powerful desires by encountering the unwanted.
- You had the intention of creating whatever you wanted to create.
Do you see what I mean? You did not intend that you should struggle in this life, because of some bad karma from a previous life. You did not intend to have a job you hate. You did not intend to be poor. You did not intend to be sick.
Yes, you set up the initial conditions of your life: your family, your environment, your health as a child. But, they were not meant to be life-long limitations.
For instance, if you were born into a poor family, that is not a sign that you were not meant to be rich. It is a reflection of your intention to inspire the powerful desire for wealth, based on your experience of poverty.
So, you entered this life with the intention of prospering, of succeeding, of learning how to create your own reality.
Don’t Wait for the Universe to Decide
A lot of people will say, “I’ll wait until the Universe guides me to the right choice.”
But, there is no right choice, just as there is no wrong choice.
Sometimes people will believe they’ve received a sign from the Universe to take a certain path. They’ll take that path, and perhaps it doesn’t work out as intended.
And they’ll say, “I don’t understand what happened. I thought this was the path the Universe wanted me to choose?”
And that’s where this misconception can be dangerous.
It’s not that the Universe chose the right path for you. It’s that you had lined up with a particular path, and the Universe was just filling in your grid. Then, for whatever reason, you fell out of alignment with that path, and so it no longer worked out.
This simple misunderstanding was the source of so much confusion when I was younger. I never knew what I wanted to do, so I would look to the Universe for the answer.
My majors in college went something like this:
- first I thought the Universe wanted me to be a programmer.
- Then, I thought I was receiving signs that I should be a classical pianist.
- Then, I thought perhaps I should be a physicist (long story on that one).
- But nope, more signs for piano.
- And no yet again, perhaps I should major in philosophy.
- In my last two years of college, I was interested in psychology, but it was really too late to change my major at that point.
Then after college, I thought I wanted to be a spiritual teacher, a psychic reader, and finally, a law of attraction coach.
But with each of those, I really thought I was receiving signs for it. Then, I’d try it, and for all but the last, it wouldn’t be what I thought it would be.
It wasn’t until I decided to become a coach that I truly discovered my passion, and that’s still going strong.
But what I realized is, there is no calling. There’s just the path you choose to line up with vibrationally. The Universe will happily put into place all of the necessary components to fulfill your desire, if you become a match to it vibrationally, first. You create your own reality. The Universe doesn’t decide your reality for you.
So, whereas most people think they need to see what the Universe wants them to do, instead you should choose your path, line up with it, and allow all the pieces to fall into place by the law of attraction.
And the great thing is, there doesn’t need to only be one path. Your path, or your career, or your life purpose, doesn’t need to be one thing you do your whole life.
The only thing that matters is that this is what you want to do now. Who knows about tomorrow?
For instance, now that I’ve taken the pressure off of myself, I’ve come to really enjoy the piano again, and lately have even been learning the organ as well. And, I can see this being a secondary passion of mine next to the coaching.
And, I still love to program. Just yesterday, I began work on a particular feature I’d like to add to this site eventually (sorry, not saying anything yet ????). But, when I thought of this idea, I had such powerful energy moving through me, I knew I just had to do it, and my higher self was immediately completely in alignment with that desire for me.
So, I have many passions. And, they wax and wane. Sometimes I’m interested in the piano and sometimes I’m not. Sometimes I program ceaselessly throughout the day, and sometimes I go months without writing a line of code.
But, it’s all okay. It’s all my choice. My higher self is right there with me, no matter what I choose to do.
What If You Were the Center of the Universe?
This is going to sound pretty controversial, but just stick with me.
First, let me introduce this amazing Abraham quote I came across, excerpted from their 2005 Hawaiian Cruise:
We want to say to all of you: “How is it that you justify your existence?” Or better said:
“By what authority do you ask for things to come to you?”
As Esther called on the telephone this morning and asked for some ice We say to her: “And by what authority do you make this request?”
“Well, I am the person in the Penthouse” Esther said. [laugh] “…by that authority…or I am a person on the cruse ship, and by that authority.”
And we said… the answer that we want to hear from everyone, if they hear the question:
“By what authority do you ask questions or do you ask service, or do you ask for the improvement or do you ask for anything?”
We want your answer to be:
“By the authority that I am the Center of the Universe, by the authority that I am Source Energy and that All That Is seeks to answer the request that I offer.”
In other words, we don’t want timidness from you. We don’t want humility from you and we don’t want servitude from you. We want an understanding of your power and an unequivocal expectation of resources to flow to you. And from that knowledge…oh! You serve the world in a powerful way.
That is what you planned.
That, sir, is your destiny.
This is actually the quote that inspired this post. Then, we had that conversation at the end of last week’s podcast, about whether there is a “right” thing to do, or whether there is some particular “purpose” to this life, and it all just fit together perfectly.
So now, let’s go there:
What if you were the center of the Universe?
Remember on Monday when I said that you must create your own perfect world?
What if you’re the center of your own perfect universe?
And what if reality itself is responding to your every desire, the moment that it is inspired?
What if this is all for you?
Are you afraid of going there? Perhaps it feels like selfishness, or egotism, or arrogance.
All of religion has been about tearing us down, so that we are slaves. There’s the story of the Tower of Babel, where man thought he was equal to God, and so God tore down the tower, and gave man all sorts of different languages. It’s a story to teach the peril of pride—of making ourselves one with God.
But as that quote says above, we are God. We are Source Energy. All of the Universe is focused right here in this present moment, expanding in response to our desires.
Wielding Your Creative Potential
Only when you realize the great creative power you have, will you begin to be able to use it in bigger and bigger ways.
Yes, you can create wealth. Yes, you can create wonderful relationships. Yes, you can create good health. Yes, you can create the perfect career for you.
But that is only the start of what you could create.
Think of people like Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and others, who weren’t afraid to dream big, and successfully expanded to allow in the fulfillment of that dream.
Think of Jim Carrey, who wrote himself a 10 million dollar check, but yet in reality at the time was totally broke. And, he of course got that 10 million.
Think of Jesus, who knew he could perform miracles, and so he did.
You were not meant for a normal, average life. You were meant to dream big, and to line up vibrationally with that dream, so it could become reality.
Don’t see the law of attraction as a way of merely solving your problems (which it can’t do, anyway), and use it as the life-changing teaching that it is.
No, your life is not predestined, except for those very few general intentions I mentioned above.
Your higher self is fully on board with whatever you choose.
So starting today, stop waiting for the Universe to choose your path for you. Stop wondering what the right path is.
Decide what you want, and line up with it. Decide what you want, and become a match to it vibrationally. Decide what you want, and allow it into your reality.
You are the center of the universe, after all. You decide what is in your reality.
How About You?
Now it’s your turn. How would it feel to you to be the center of the universe? Have you realize the great power that you have, and begun to use it in your own life to create your own reality? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
