So many spiritual paths teach the importance of living in the moment.
But, how important is it, really? Should you always strive to live in the present, or are there times it’s not appropriate?
We’ll discuss in today’s video when it’s appropriate to focus on living in the moment, and when you might want to do otherwise. Further, we’ll reveal why this can be useful for applying the law of attraction.

[00:00:00] Brandon: Hey everyone. This is Brandon Olivares with Co-Creation Coaching, and I am here with my wife Christine…
[00:00:07] Christine: Hello!
[00:00:08] Brandon: And today we are talking about a new topic. Today’s video is called, Is Living in the Moment Required for Law of Attraction Success?
[00:00:21] Christine: What a question!
[00:00:33] Christine: Oops, I didn’t read that yet. [laugh]
[00:00:34] Brandon: Oh yeah, that’s right.
I talked about this concept a little bit near the end of that review, so I’m going to give the link and you can go see that if you want to.
A lot of spiritual paths, especially, really emphasize living in the moment. And how essential is that really?
I always hear questions from people about, “How can I live in the moment?” And, “What do I do if it’s hard to live in the moment?” And that kind of thing.
So that’s what we’re going to be talking about.
When Living in the Moment Is Useful
[00:01:06] Brandon: So the first part of this topic basically is that it is useful to live in the moment.
[00:01:16] Christine: I was going to say, because it’s like a both/and kind of, right?
[00:01:21] Brandon: Right. It is useful to live in the moment when…
[00:01:26] Christine: When you feel good about it?
[00:01:28] Brandon: Sort of.
[00:01:29] Christine: I thought I’d try.
[00:01:30] Brandon: It’s okay. [laugh]
When you have resistance.
I have, if you don’t know about it already everyone, my two steps of the Effortless Manifestation Process. You have Step 1, which is making peace with what is, and is basically learning how to go general; and Step 2, which is finding the vibrational essence of your manifestation. So basically, moving towards your manifestation; what Abraham would call setting the grid.
The part of living in the moment is really useful for the first step: Making Peace with What Is.
[00:02:11] Christine: That’s like what mindfulness is, right?
[00:02:13] Brandon: Right, mindfulness.
And, it’s really, really good for that kind of thing, because it’s hard to have resistance while you’re in the present moment, because you’re not focused on guilt from the past, or fears from the future, or things like that. Most resistance—not all, but probably most—is based in either the past or the future.
And so because of that, it can be really, really useful to live in the present moment when you are feeling really resistant.
[00:02:49] Christine: I’ve had to do that recently with my manifestations, because I don’t want to think about the future. I just want to live in the moment and see what happens.
Sometimes you have to, because if you get too specific, I feel like then you can’t really manifest too well, because you’re focusing on what if this happened, and that happened, and all these bad things happened: “Okay, let’s just live in the moment.” Take a deep breath.
[00:03:15] Brandon: Yeah, it’s really good for going general, when you don’t want to get too specific. It’s really good for going general and just being mindful of this present moment, and letting everything be what it is, and it’s just complete allowing. So that can be really useful when you have a lot of resistance.
I also talk about mindfulness, like Christine said, I talk a lot about mindfulness. And just being mindful of everything that’s going on right now. Even being mindful of thoughts, being mindful of feelings, being mindful of outside stimuli—your senses: what you see, what you hear, what you feel, things like that. And just letting everything be what it is right now.
Like I said, that’s a really good way of overcoming resistance, because most resistance is based in the past or the future.
Your Point of Power Is in the Present
[00:04:02] Brandon: Another point of this: I’m not huge into Seth. I don’t know if you know who Seth is, but Seth was another channeled entity…
[00:04:11] Christine: I liked Seth.
[00:04:13] Brandon: …Before Abraham.
[00:04:16] Christine: But I like the energy of it more than what was said. I like the way it felt.
[00:04:21] Brandon: Yeah.
And one of Seth’s quotes that’s very, very popular is, “The point of power is in the present.”
So it’s only in the present moment that you can be making any changes—that you can be changing your future.
And this is really important, because a lot of people, well, worry about, “What about the things I did in the past?” And I’ve had people ask me this: “What about things I’ve done in the past, beliefs I’ve held in the past. What about going back and finding the root of old limiting beliefs, and old patterns of thinking, and old traumas, and things like that?”
It’s not useful. That’s when you want to start saying, “The point of power is in the present,” because it’s only right here in the present moment that anything really matters. Right here in the present moment is where you start to make a difference in your reality.
So that’s what you need to align. You don’t need to go back and trace back the root of old thoughts and old beliefs and old traumas, and things like that. You just need to change what you’re feeling right here in the present moment.
And so in that way, it is useful to say to live in the moment, because that’s where your power is. That’s where your power is.
And so you want to focus on aligning in the moment. You want to focus on feeling the best you can, on finding thoughts that feel a little bit better, and the only place you can do that is in the moment.
Because you can’t change what’s in the past, you can’t do something in the future; you can affect the future in the present moment, but you have to be right here, right now, to make those changes.
[00:06:21] Christine: Because in essence, time is only our measurement. Yes, it’s in the past, but it doesn’t really matter. Because really, you could argue that it really never happened, too.
[00:06:35] Brandon: Well, I mean…
[00:06:37] Christine: I don’t know. I’m just saying, you think of past lives and stuff, well, if you get reincarnated, you could go backwards, really. That’s what I’m saying. Yes, it happened in your measurement, but in essence it doesn’t really matter, and you can just get over how you feel, and just focus on the present.
[00:06:58] Brandon: Right.
Yes, it’s true, all time is really happening simultaneously. One of the things Abraham says that I like, all of your lifetimes are happening right now. It’s not really a past or a future lifetime.
But that’s not the reason. Really the main reason that the past doesn’t matter as much is because that’s already done. That’s old news.
The timeline set up is, your current outer reality, the present moment right now that you’re experiencing, is a result of your past vibrational holding; and your current vibrational holding is going to be your future outer reality.
So outer reality, as it is right now, is really old news. It is the past crystallized in your outer reality.
But what you are doing right now is you are creating a whole new future from your current vibration—from the way that you feel right now. And so you’re going to create a new future out of that, which will become crystallized within a matter of even hours, or days, or weeks, depending on the resistance.
[00:08:19] Christine: Just different parallel realities, right?
[00:08:21] Brandon: Right, yeah. But because of your vibrational holding—because of what you are holding—the Universe is going to respond to that in outer reality in time, with the buffer of time as there always is.
And that’s why it’s so important not to respond emotionally to what’s out there, especially if it’s unwanted. When you see something out there that you don’t like, that is old news. That is what you held vibrationally in the past.
So let’s say you look at your reality, and you see not a lot of money or something like that. That is not what you’re doing right now: that is what you did in the past, and the result of that is right now.
But if you look at that and right now you feel bad about it, you’re creating the same thing in the future, and that’s what a lot of people do.
And that’s why the law of attraction’s all about deliberate creation: you see what’s out there, and then you say, “I don’t want that, and I’m going to pivot to something better. I know what I don’t want. What is it that I do want?”
So I turn my attention to that. “What is it I do want? I want more abundance, I want more freedom, and I want more security.” And I keep my focus there in the moment, because when I keep it there in the moment, then I have a new future, because the Universe responds with something completely new and fresh in the future.
You Are Always Living in the Moment
[00:09:49] Brandon: So one of the things that Abraham says a lot about the present moment is that you really can’t not be in the present moment, even if you think you are. Because everything that you are doing, you’re doing now.
It sounds obvious and simple, but it’s true. Everything you’re doing, you’re doing now. If you’re focusing on the past, you’re focusing on it now. If you’re focusing on the future, you’re focusing on it now. And if you’re rehashing old fears, you’re doing it now.
[00:10:23] Christine: I never thought of it like that.
[00:10:25] Brandon: Right. It’s all happening right now. You can’t not live in the present moment.
And like I said, it can help when you are resisting—when you have a lot of resistance. It can help to live in the present moment.
But, once you get to that Step 2, where you are ready to focus on the wanted—where you are ready to create deliberately what you want, then you kind of focus wherever it feels good to focus.
I found a quote before the video, again from Abraham, that says, “Spend more time focused upon your dream than upon the reality.”
And that’s if you look at reality and you don’t like what’s there, spend more time in your dream—your dream of what you want in the future.
Don’t spend time in reality if you don’t like it. Or, only spend time in those parts of reality—I talked in a recent post about selective focusing. Or was it the podcast? That was the podcast.
But we were talking about selective focusing. Focus on what parts of reality you like. You’re not going to like all of it.
[00:11:36] Christine: It’s like selective hearing. [laugh]
[00:11:38] Brandon: And so you spend more time in the dream of what you want, especially when current reality isn’t what you want. You spend more time in the dream.
That’s where these teachings differ from people who say, “Live in the moment. Live in the moment.” Because they will say, “Oh, only remain right here in the present moment, rooted to what’s going on right now.”
But no, that doesn’t always feel good, because if you look at what’s going on right now, and you notice that what you want isn’t hear, that’s going to make you feel worse.
And so that’s when you either redirect your focus to something in the moment that feels better—because the moment’s not one thing, it’s a whole spectrum of different experiences, and some are wanted and some are unwanted.
But it’s either that, or it’s spending more time in your dream, dreaming of what it is you want, and spending time there, as long as that feels good. You don’t want to do it in a way that’s desperate or feels forced or anything. But if it feels good to spend time in that dream, spend time in that dream.
Spend more time looking towards what it is you want, rather than what is here right now. Because as long as you’re looking at what is here right now, you are getting more of what is here right now.
And like I said, it’s not one, set thing. The present moment is so complex, there’s so many parts of it, so multi-faceted.
But whatever in the moment you are looking at, you are perpetuating. That which you notice is what is persisted.
So you want to either find the parts of your present moment that you like—that are wanted—or focus on the dream. Focus on what it is you want—to feel the feeling of what you want.
And that might include thinking about the future. That might include thinking about past experiences that were really nice. That might include visualizing.
I don’t use visualization that much, but some people like that. It’s not a requirement; it’s not necessary. But that might be what helps you to feel better.
And if that’s the case, then you do that.
Or affirmations. But you’re focused on what you want so deliberately that current reality shifts to meet that.
Bringing It All Together
[00:14:11] Brandon: So it’s not—kind of in summary—it’s not that you need to live in the present moment. Living in the moment is important when, again, you have a lot of resistance, or when the current moment feels good. If everything in your present moment, or most things, feel really good to you, then that’s a wonderful place to focus.
But if it doesn’t, then you need to focus somewhere else. And that might be the future, that might be the past, that might be visualization, that might be your dream.
But you create the reality within you. You make that inner reality more important, and you use that imagination to go there, and to stay there, until outer reality conforms to that vision of what you want.
And so that is really what it is. Again, when you want to live in the moment, and when you want to focus on something else.
[00:15:12] Christine: I like doing the past memories thing. It’s fun.
[00:15:16] Brandon: Yeah.
And really, the litmus test—what you want to do all the time is to do whatever feels best—whatever feels good to you. There’s nothing more important than that you feel good, every moment of every day.
And so that’s what you want to do. That’s the only test. If focusing in the moment feels best, then you do that; if it doesn’t, then you don’t. There’s nothing wrong with not living in the moment, if that’s not going to bring you relief.
So that is all I have for today. Thank you everyone for joining in and watching.
Thanks everyone, and have a wonderful day!
[00:16:03] Christine: Have a good day!
