So, you’re not really feeling that bad. You can’t exactly look at any specific thing in life and say, “I don’t like this.”
But, you’re also not feeling great. And the lack of great things to focus on is starting to annoy you a bit.
This is the classic case of boredom. It hits us all at one time or another.
But, how do you get out of boredom using the law of attraction?
How do you start to move things along faster, and find wonderful, fun things to focus on?
Boredom Is Still Resistance
The tough thing to understand initially is that boredom is still resistant.
It doesn’t seem like it much, because it’s hanging out there right in the middle of the emotional guidance scale.
The emotional guidance scale is a scale that Abraham has introduced. It contains 22 emotions, from very specifically positive, to very specifically negative.
And, boredom is right there between the positive and negative ends of the scale. It rests right on the border between the two.
However, boredom is still more on the negative side than the positive. Once you move out of boredom, then you’re moving up into contentment, which is decidedly positive. But, boredom is still squarely on the negative end of the spectrum.
This means that although it doesn’t really feel like there’s a lot of resistance—indeed it doesn’t feel like there’s much of anything—still, there is resistance.
This is actually very good news, because if there is resistance, then it means that we can release that resistance, and redirect our focus to something more positive.
But there is something else going on as well:
The Momentum Is Extremely Slow
There is always momentum.
Momentum simply means the speed at which universal energy is flowing towards your desire.
The faster that energy is flowing, the faster your desire is coming to you. Of course, if that energy meets resistance, then a lot of resistance will manifest as well.
In boredom, there is still momentum, but very, very little of it. Boredom is about as general as you can possibly get.
When there is very little momentum, it means, on the positive side, that nothing hurts very much. What resistance there is, is only going to manifest in small ways.
But on the negative side, it also means that nothing feels very good.
It means that things just aren’t moving very fast. It means that energy is not flowing very quickly towards your desires.
How is momentum controlled?
Basically, momentum is slowed down by going general. It is slowed down by focusing with less and less detail.
So, boredom is the state when momentum has gotten so slow that there is very little to focus on that either feels good or bad.
Imagine yourself driving a car, and traveling only at about 5 MPH.
Yes, you’re technically moving. And yes, if you were to run into anything at this speed (resistance arising), it really wouldn’t hurt very much.
But, wouldn’t it just be so boring?
There’s not the thrill of moving fast. There’s not the thrill of the scenery moving by on the outside. And, there’s not the thrill of moving quickly towards your destination.
That is boredom in a nutshell:
- It still holds resistance, because it is still more on the negative end of the emotional guidance scale
- But, momentum isn’t moving very quickly, so that resistance is barely noticeable
Now we know what boredom is. But, what do we do about it when we feel stuck in boredom?
3 Techniques for Overcoming Boredom
1. Focus on the Positive
You are bored because, in some small way, you are focused on the negative.
You might be focused on your desire still not being here. You might be focused on nothing feeling exciting.
Either way, you’re focused on the negative, somehow.
The thing about boredom is that it feels so inescapable. The more you focus on boredom, of course, the more you get boredom in your reality.
So, we need to break this cycle of focus.
The first way I recommend doing this is by finding something positive in your reality.
Now, it won’t be easy to find something positive to feel great about, because your momentum is so slow.
But I’m not asking you to feel great, just a bit better.
What’s going on in your life that is good?
- Do you have enough money to pay the bills?
- Do you have a loving partner?
- Do you have supportive friends?
- Do you have a pet who loves you? Or in the case of a cat, tolerates you? Just joking on that one. 😛
- Do you have a place to live?
- Do you have food to eat?
- Do you have water to drink?
- Did the Sun rise this morning?
You get the point.
Find something—anything—that is going right for you, even if just a little bit.
Even if it’s as little as a stranger smiling at you, or finding a penny on the ground, focus on that. Write it down, if that would help you.
Now, just gently redirect your focus towards these positive things.
This should not be in a forceful way. Everything about the law of attraction should be effortless.
Whenever you have a thought about boredom, just redirect that thought to one of these slightly positive things.
- “I’m so bored.”
- “Well, wasn’t it nice when I got that discount at the store earlier?”
- “There’s nothing to do.”
- “Isn’t it great that the weather was so beautiful today?”
- “When will my desire ever come?”
- “I really enjoyed the conversation I had with Bob earlier.”
Just keep redirecting your thoughts, and pay attention to your emotional guidance system to ensure you are authentically feeling better.
Something that might help, if you’re unable to find anything else, is just acknowledging that you are further along your journey than you were before.
If you used to be even lower on the scale than boredom, then isn’t it great you’ve made the progress you have?
You’re almost to the positive end of the spectrum. If you can make it this far, then certainly you can get a bit more positive.
2. Focus on the Vibration of What You Want
Of course, this is just Step 2 of the Effortless Manifestation Process, repackaged into a new context.
What do you want to feel like?
Focus on the feeling that you want to create in your reality. This is also known as pivoting.
Ask yourself, “What would it feel like to no longer be bored?”
Or, “What would it feel like for life to be exciting to me?”
Allow the feeling to naturally arise. Again, there is no need to force anything here.
If resistance pops up when you are focusing on this general feeling of non-boredom, or excitement, then you are getting too specific.
Don’t think about how these feelings might come about in your reality.
Simply allow the feelings themselves to permeate your inner state. Lightly focus on them, and then let them go.
If you do this a couple of times per day, your boredom will come to an end in no time at all.
It must, because you have shifted your focus to another point. Reality must respond to your new focus.
The only reason you have remained bored is because you insisted on continuing to focus on boredom.
What do you think would happen if you completely redirected that focus to feeling better?
The Universe would immediately start bringing you circumstances, people, and objects that felt better to you.
Just a little different focus, and reality would start to shift.
That’s why I love this process so much. It is very simple to start putting it into practice.
Just feel the way you want to feel, little by little.
3. Let the Resistance Get Bigger
I have one final technique that is effective for overcoming boredom.
One of the most difficult things about boredom is that you just don’t know what you are being resistant about. The resistance is simply too small at this point, because of your slow momentum.
So what if we simply increased that resistance?
Now, I know, you might think I’ve gone crazy for a moment.
“Isn’t that exactly the opposite of what we’re trying to do?”
Yes, in the long-run.
But when the resistance is so tiny, sometimes it helps to make it bigger, so you can more readily notice it.
How do we do this?
Basically, this is a reverse of the first technique I mentioned above.
Instead of finding something good to focus on, you’ll find something that doesn’t feel good to you.
You might even just get frustrated about things moving so slowly. That’s negative momentum, isn’t it?
So just choose the biggest thing you can find. Find the thing that feels the worst to you right now.
And, just give it a bit of focus.
Pretty soon, very specific thoughts will arise about why this is so bad.
For a moment, you will be feeling worse. This is the law of attraction responding to your negative focus.
And now, find a way to feel better about these thoughts.
Take these thoughts and transmute them into the positive.
Here are some examples:
- “I wish my desire would come already.”
- “As I redirect my focus to the positive, it can come very soon.”
- “I wish I could find my passion in life.”
- “I can never get it wrong. I can simply find what my passion is right now. And if I can’t find that passion, then I can find what feels the best in the moment.”
Just find little ways of transmuting these thoughts—of feeling better about them.
Alternatively, simply use mindfulness, or another technique for releasing resistance, to let go of these negative thoughts.
But the point of this exercise is that as this resistance gets bigger, it’s easier to see what is at the root of it.
What are you really feeling bad about?
When your resistance gets bigger, you can get a lot more specific about that.
My Own Encounter with Boredom
It was earlier this year, around February or so. And, I was just feeling very bored.
Nothing was moving very fast with my business. I didn’t know where to take it next. I wanted inspiration, but wasn’t receiving any.
I basically used the second technique above: focusing on the vibration of what I wanted.
I thought about what it would be like to not be bored. I thought about what kind of things I might do, in a very general way.
It worked in a huge way.
Within a few weeks, I had received one of my best ideas yet for this website. And, it was only the beginning.
I started becoming more prolific with my blog posts.
I started creating courses and memberships, to provide more information and resources for my readers.
And just last month, I started my podcast, Co-Create Your Life.
Pretty soon, I found myself having more to do than I knew what to do with.
Often Christine tells me I need to take a break, because I love working on all of my ideas way too much, and adding more content to Co-Creation Coaching.
But, I put this story here to illustrate that it doesn’t have to be difficult to overcome boredom.
In fact, it can be quite easy, if you persist in focusing on the way you want to feel, rather than focusing on what is.
Hopefully, the above techniques gave you some ideas of how you can do this for yourself.
