How would it be if instead of trying to resolve your problems using your intellect, you could simply dissolve them, as though they never existed? And what if this process could be absolutely effortless, if you’d only apply a few simple principles?
Seems far-fetched? Well, that is the premise of the newest book by my favorite author, Richard Dotts.
According to Richard Dotts, problems aren’t meant to be solved, because to give them more focus would only be to perpetuate them.
No, problems must be dissolved, by completely shifting your focus away.
And he gives a simple three-step technique for doing exactly this in his newest book, Dissolve the Problem: by Shifting Physical Reality.
I’ve been wanting to review a book from Richard Dotts for a long time now. However, with the site changes a while ago, I wanted to wait before I started posting reviews.
Now’s the time, though. I feel like I’m hitting my stride with the content schedule I have (plus now I’m adding podcasts on Saturdays 😀 , stay tuned). So, I’m going to try to make Thursday, Book Review Day.
Who Is Richard Dotts?
Awesome, that’s who. 🙂
I started reading his books July of last year. Immediately I loved the simplicity of his approach.
Since then, I’ve read every one of his 26 books. So, you’ll be likely seeing a lot of reviews of his books in the future.
The thing I like about Richard Dotts is that his technique is simple—in fact, you could probably pick it up in 5 minutes or less. However, he visits it from a slightly different angle in every book, and it gives just enough detail to broaden your perspective of exactly how, and why, it works the way it does.
After 26 books, I’m not really surprised at the direction this book took. But, I still loved reading it, and wouldn’t think of refraining from buying every one of his new books.
His Newest Book: Dissolve the Problem: by Shifting Physical Reality
I just happened to look the other day and see that he had released another book this month. Much celebration ensued.
His new book is called Dissolve the Problem: by Shifting Physical Reality.
And as I mentioned, it is all about how to truly solve your problems.
Actually, it’s about how your problems don’t need to be solved at all, because in the Universe’s point of view, there are never any problems.
Here’s a quote from the book that says it perfectly:
There are no problems that need to be solved, whether by physical or metaphysical means. Life, as it is, is whole, complete, and divinely perfect.
Huh? No problems?
It at first might seem crazy that there are no problems. We dedicate and incredible amount of time to defending our problems. We have a sort of love-hate relationship with our problems. We say we don’t want them, but if someone tries to point out an easy way out, we’ll defend that problem to the death.
In my spiritual coaching, I find that people have to be ready to face their problems and admit that there’s really nothing to them.
A great deal of time can be wasted trying to convince a client that a problem isn’t as real as they think it is. But, the ego is good at defending its domain.
Richard Dotts describes four stages that many of us go through in how much importance we give our “problems”. Briefly, those are:
- Life is full of problems
- There are many problems, but if you have enough money, you can solve some of them
- You see the spiritual source of your problems, and realize you can solve them with spiritual principles
- You realize there are really no problems at all
Wherever you are in this progression, it is perfectly okay. Though, Richard Dotts says that if you are even reading this book, or interested in this kind of material, you must necessarily be in stages 3 or 4. I tend to agree.
Drop the Problem
This book discusses dissolving a problem, rather than trying to resolve it.
When you try to resolve a problem, you are still at the vibrational level of the problem itself.
However, Richard’s predominant method is basically to shift your focus away from the problem, to a place where there are no problems at all.
He goes through a series of steps which will help you to do exactly this.
And I think, it can be useful. The only requirement is that you have a level of trust that this process will work.
When you are just starting out, this can be difficult. It is hard to avoid the temptation to dissect the problem in every detail. We tend to keep our focus on that problem as much as is possible.
If you can convince yourself that what Richard Dotts writes is true—and it certainly is—and you can have the trust to drop the problem for a while, then it can work for you very well.
If, however, you choose instead to believe more in the problem than in your ability to create your own reality, then, really no book will be able to help, until you can let go of that problem consciousness a bit more.
Taking a Passive Role
As I was reading this book, there was really only one objection that arose for me.
And that was really a simple matter of Richard Dotts’ approach, vs. what I prefer to do.
Basically, he is very passive. You simply focus on a reality where the problem does not exist, and allow the problem to disappear entirely.
This is certainly a very good approach, and you might have to begin with this.
But, in my opinion, eventually this will get, well, boring.
We are shifting our focus away from the problem, but what should we shift it towards?
Let’s say you have a problem with money, or so you think, anyway.
So you shift your focus away from money for a while. You decide to enter a place where the money problem just does not come up at all.
And you find that things start to resolve themselves. You feel wonderful, because your reality is finally starting to respond to you. (Hint: It actually always has. ????)
Now what?
You aren’t really being the deliberate creator of your own reality. You are more just stepping aside and letting reality take care of itself.
And I think it’s a valid approach, for some.
But, how good would it feel to think about what you will do with that money? Perhaps you will go on vacation, or maybe you’ll buy a new house. Or, maybe you’ll take up a new hobby.
Oo, can you feel the excitement?
That energy is going to flow a lot faster than simply the neutral energy of peace.
It is an energy that moves swiftly towards a new, even better manifestation.
Now, I think to some extent this will naturally happen as you move towards the positive end of the emotional guidance scale.
But, if you keep your focus on not focusing on money at all, you’ll actually start to clog up that energy that wants to flow towards something new and awesome and exciting.
Let your focus go where it feels best to go. That’s really the best rule of thumb I can give for manifesting your desires effortlessly and easily every time.
But, if you are feeling stuck, this book is an awesome place to begin.
Just remember to let yourself focus a bit more specifically once you are able to without triggering resistance.
I cover this subject a lot more in my post, 3 Approaches to the Law of Attraction: Which to Choose? So go check that out for more information on this. 😀
How About You?
What’s your experience with shifting your focus away from the problems in your life? Have you successfully raised your vibration from the level of the problem itself? Let me know in the comments.
And, if you’ve read this book, let me know what you think of it, too.

I like the review. I’d like to read some of his books to further understand his concept. I prefer to shift my focus to something which is positive instead of just not thinking about the problem. However, at its base, his concept sounds great because you are not feeding the problem energy.
Justin
I agree, Justin. I think it is a necessary step, though, especially when you have some big resistance. But once the resistance is dissolved, then I think it is important to focus more specifically on the wanted.
It’s like what I talked about in Lesson 36 of the training about the Universal Matrix. First you have to withdraw your focus, then direct it more narrowly towards what you want. Both steps are important.

Not to be negative but I have found that striking a balance of not denying the thoughts and not insisting the compulsive thoughts proves to be quite hard. It seems like the thoughts just keep coming back almost immediately after I let them go. Was excited at first to read the book but after about a week I am really worn out. Dotts does say that its like a singer hitting a note. I think I need a clearer explanation because it is very hard just for me to realize I am thinking of it again
Hello,
Thanks so much for your comment.
I know it can be difficult, especially when you’ve built up a great deal of resistance. The key is in totally accepting the resistant thought: not trying to fight it, not trying to do anything with it. Even if it comes back up, it is okay. You simply allow and accept it.
Regular meditation helps with this, so I would recommend that.
That explains it. I have already put it into practice and have already seen a difference. thank you so much.
No problem at all. 😀 Glad I could help.

Excellent blog! I looked up Richard Dotts after seeing one of his books on Amazon. I have always been fascinated by the LOA and spiritual principles that are related.
