Welcome to day #2 of the challenge. I hope that you found yesterday’s material useful, and have been putting it to good use.
In day 1, I talked about your goal seed, and how to water it through your focus on the “why”, or the general feeling of what you want.
If you can do that free of resistance, then you’re well on your way to manifesting $100.
But even if resistance came up, that’s perfectly okay. As I said before, resistance is a natural part of the process. It is to be expected, especially when manifesting something new.
That’s especially true in the area of money. Money is a topic that many people seem to have resistance about, so it’s quite natural if some of that popped up as you did the lesson from day 1.
So today we are going to discuss how to deal with resistance. But before doing that, I want to give you more of a grounding in the theory behind the law of attraction, which is necessary to truly understand what resistance is.
What Is Resistance?
First of all, what exactly is resistance anyway?
It’s a word that is used a lot in LOA circles, but for some, it can be unclear exactly what we’re talking about when we use that word.
Resistance is, essentially, the emotional pushing against of a thought or feeling.
What do I mean by an “emotional pushing against”?
Basically, it feels bad to you, so you try to remove yourself from it. You try to say “no” to that thought or feeling.
For example, think of being poor, or not having enough money.
The thought itself isn’t resistance. Your reaction to that thought is the resistance.
Notice how you instantly feel bad—how you experience some emotion like fear or anxiety?
See if you can look even deeper, and notice how you are pushing against the idea of being poor, or not having enough money.
Once you can see this for yourself, you will discover the secret of dealing with resistance once and for all.
The Emotional Guidance System
Now you might say, “Of course I’m pushing against it. I don’t want it to manifest in my life.”
But that’s a misconception that many people hold: that if you don’t push against the unwanted, then the Universe won’t know that you don’t want it.
But it’s also a misunderstanding of the nature of emotion.
Abraham uses a term called the emotional guidance system, and I’m going to borrow that term here, because it applies perfectly to what we’re talking about.
Firstly, you must know that 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, universal energy is flowing through you. It feeds your cells, it runs your body, and it is that which underlies all experience.
Universal energy is always pure, joyful, and loving. There is no negativity in this universal energy.
Now we add another element, which is you.
You are the vessel through which universal energy flows. You have a valve of sorts which determines how freely this energy can flow.
When the valve is totally open, then the energy flows freely, and you experience pure joy and love. If the valve is not so open, then you don’t allow the energy so much, and you experience more negative emotions, depending on how closed that valve is.
So your emotions are your translation of the interaction between universal energy, and your openness to that energy.
The emotional guidance system is simply saying that you can know how open you are to universal energy, by feeling how you feel. If you feel negative, you are resisting, or pushing against, or not allowing, that energy. And if you feel good, then the valve is wide open and it’s flowing through powerfully.
Two Aspects to a Manifestation
Now the thing is that universal energy flows based on the power of your desire. If you have a small desire, like perhaps what you’d like to eat for dinner tonight, that desire evokes universal energy, but not very much of it.
If resistance comes up about a small desire, it doesn’t feel as bad because the energy isn’t moving so quickly. But if the desire is big, then the energy is moving far faster, and so the emotions are far more intense, whether positive or negative.
So there are two basic aspects to any manifestation:
First is the intensity, or amplitude, of the desire. The more intense the desire, the faster the energy will flow in response to that desire. The speed of that energy is called momentum.
The second is your openness to the flow of that energy. If you are totally open, then it feels good. But if you are closed, then you are resisting it. This, obviously, is your resistance.
So in short, momentum is the speed of universal energy in response to your desire, and resistance is how closed off you are to that energy.
And again, you can tell how much resistance you have through the emotional guidance system: the more the resistance, the more negative the emotion—and the less the resistance, the more positive the emotion.
So let’s go back to thinking of not having enough money.
Now that you know a bit more of the underpinnings of the LOA, why do you think you feel negatively when you think about this?
Well, very simply, it’s because thinking of not having enough money makes you access the desire of having more, which calls on universal energy. But, you are pushing against, or closing off to, that energy, which creates resistance.
You might say, again, “Of course I’m closing off to the idea of not having enough money, because I don’t want that to be my reality.”
But universal energy is universal energy. You can’t open to some of it and close to some of it.
Once you open up to that energy, then your thoughts in respect to money will change to be more positive, because your emotions will be more positive, and so they will attract more positive thoughts.
You are either open or closed. If you’re closed, you are resistant to all your desires.
So knowing all of this, what do you think is at the core of any method to release resistance?
If you said opening up to universal energy, then you are absolutely right.
If you simply stop closing off and pushing against it, then it would easily and effortlessly take you where you want to go.
Making Peace with What Is
Now I’ve covered a lot today, and you should have some good stuff to work with.
Unfortunately there are many ways of releasing resistance, but today I wanted to show you what it all comes down to. No method is more or less effective, as long as it keeps the above principles in mind.
But I don’t want to leave you empty-handed, so I will give you one practical exercise to try out, and then you can experiment by applying the principles you learned today.
The first and possibly most essential way of releasing resistance is by making peace with where you are now.
Remember, universal energy is universal energy. You can’t allow parts of it and disallow other parts.
So if right now you don’t have enough money, and you’re pushing against that, you’re holding away your abundance.
In order to manifest abundance, you have to make peace with, and allow, the reality of having exactly as much money as you do right now.
Again, accepting and allowing this doesn’t mean the Universe won’t bring you more. Quite to the contrary: if you accept where you are now, the Universe will only bring you better and better things.
I’m not asking you to fall in love with your current circumstances. I’m just asking you to soften your resistance to it—to allow it to be okay, just for now.
This is where you are. You can’t do anything about that. You can create the future, but the present is what it is.
You can blame yourself all you want, or beat yourself up all you want, but it won’t add one more dollar to your bank account in this moment.
However, we can add more dollars to your bank account tomorrow, or in a few days, or next week.
But to do that, you have to accept where you are right now.
Just sit here in this moment, and realize that where you are is okay, just as it is.
We all have to start somewhere, and this is where you’re starting.
Notice that as you make peace with your current reality, you feel better.
Why? Because you’re opening your valve to allow more universal energy to flow through. And because you’re allowing it more, you are moving in the direction of receiving all of your desires.
What I didn’t mention above is that positive emotions not only tell you that you’re allowing more energy, they also tell you that you are moving in the direction of your desire.
Likewise, negative emotions tell you that you are moving away from your desire.
So right now, as you feel better, that is your way of knowing that you are headed towards your desire in this moment.
Just keep that up, and you’ll be there in no time.
Homework for Day 2
Experiment with what you learned today. Notice your emotions throughout the day, and determine whether you are allowing universal energy to flow through, or whether you are closing off to it. You can also determine, by the intensity of the emotion, how much momentum there is, or how fast that energy is flowing.
Make a note through the day, then, of whether there is fast or slow momentum, and whether there is resistance or allowing, in that moment, to whatever you are thinking of. It doesn’t have to even be related to your goal.
Also practice making peace with where you are now, and trying to soften the resistance to it.
And finally, keep practicing what we discussed in day 1 as well.
